View Full Version : Kapafool, WRXnFX1974 & everyone else
Resbum 01-11-2002, 02:56 PM Kapafool- Glad I found you. You owe me big!!! I know it was some devious plot of yours. Showing me your car and talking about it like it was sooooo HOT! You knew I wouldn't be able to resist. I spent two weeks getting the boss to say ok. Buttttt.... she still hasn't told me when. I want to bring her to the meet on the 27th. I'll introduce you as the guy who made me want to spend $27k when we're thinking about buying a house. I'll see how YOU handle the "hot seat"!
With that said, I'll move on.
WRXnFX1974- Well done on getting this forum started. That also goes to everyone that posted to the thread in the general forum. i-club probably got tired of it being there. Especially after the thread broke the 100,000 post.
To the group as a whole.- If I can make the meet on the 27th and bring my wife along, feel free to help in my mission to buy a WRX. She's already said I could get one but it may not be soon. Just remember, in dealing with her everything is "subtle". She takes to strong arm tactics about as well as farting in church. Oh... and DON"T say anything about spending $$$ on aftermarket parts. That would be very bad ju-ju for me at this time.
Seriously, I plan on making the meet and want to bring the misses along so she can see the cars. Will anyone else have wifes and girlfriends with them? I don't want her to be there and not have other ladies to talk with. She'll be bored with the cars in about 15 minutes.
KapaFool 01-11-2002, 10:06 PM Repeat after me........."It's not a WRX, its a Subaru and its a
4 door family car."
Resbum 01-12-2002, 12:55 PM Kapafool- Oh..., you're good!... I'll definitely have to introduce you to the Mrs.
RallyX13 01-12-2002, 07:52 PM Make sure you empahsize the AWD, the ABS, and all the Air Bags too!!
Kris
KapaFool 01-12-2002, 11:00 PM That's amateur Kris. You can't say awd or the other stuff because you're gonna sound too knowledgeable and it'll sound like a con. sheesh...what were you thinking.
Resbum 01-13-2002, 01:06 AM Kris- Thanks, but I think Eric is right. Her eyes start to glaze over when I mention keeping proper air pressure in the tires. If I said AWD, ABS and Air Bags all in the same conversation I'd have to take to the hospital in a coma.
Eric- Resbum stands for Reserve Bum. I was in the AF Reserves for 10 years before joining the AK Air Guard. I did it full time as a part timer, hence the tag Reserve Bum. I really like your idea though,... Rescue Bum. It kinda has a nice sound to it.
Winslow- Maybe your girlfriend might be able to impart some of her interest in cars on my wife. If nothing else, distract her while I talk with you guys about how to spend fast.
I kinda hit a stumbling block today about going to the meeting. It was a MAJOR Homer Simpson. D'ohp!!!! On the way to the store I said, " Hey, all the Subaru guys are having their meeting on the 27th of Jan. I want you to go to it so you can see all the cars." And she said with EMPHASIS, " The 27th is my birthday!!!" Like I said, "D'ohp!" It was really quite in the car for a few seconds before I came up with some lame comment about buying her lunch at Red Robins. We'll see how things go. At the least, I think she'll let me go to it for a while.
RawCode 01-13-2002, 02:18 AM IS that what caused that explosion I heard? lol  Dude, your lucky you got out clean on thta one... :)
RawCode
KapaFool 01-13-2002, 04:56 AM Good luck Doug. Maybe just drive by if you can't attend.
WRXnFX 01-14-2002, 04:44 AM I hope you will still be able to attend. Tell her your going to Red Robin for birthday lunch and we'll tell them it's her birthday. You're lucky to be alive. I can't believe you forgot your wife's birthday.
Resbum 01-14-2002, 11:37 AM Yea, I was sweating bullets there for a few minutes. Hell, you can't blame me. I'm kinda new to this marriage stuff and I have a hard time remembering my own birthday. Besides, we're talking about cars here. That's enough to distract any red blooded guy. We'll probably show up, even if it's just for a little while.
Kris- Sorry I didn't call back on Sunday. Duty called at 6:30 AM and I had to go into work, which took up most of the day. I'll be off work from the 18th to the 23rd of Jan. Maybe we can get together then at some point when you guys are working on someone's car. As I told Winslow, "I'm always willing to turn a wrench, so don't hesitate to call if you need help".
WRXnFX 01-14-2002, 05:01 PM This also goes out to AK_WRX. I think the next item of business for my car is going to be the gauges. They should be here this week. If the MRT order comes in then we will be busy again with exhaust mods. There is always work to be done.
Funny how you titled this thread. We can never go off topic!!! Winslow
Resbum 01-15-2002, 05:38 AM Winslow - Man, I've got wiring down. On my Toyota truck- 100W pencil beam lights, 100W wide angle lights, 55W backup lights, electric fan, 110db horns. All fused & through relays. MSD 6A Ignition. I showhorned in a 120 amp Delco alt. Made my own 8 terminal brass power bus. VDO tach & oil pres gauges. I can solder like a mad dog! I have the tray mounted waiting for the second battery. Nice stereo w/ six speakers and x-overs. CB radio w/ tuned coax and antenna.
Bring on your stinkin' gauges! I'll eat 'em for a snack and then look for the electrical main coarse! Seriously, let me know if I can help. I've got a couple of books on automotive electrical. All the math for figuring power consumption, wire gauges, etc...
Just remember... a bad ground is the leading cause of electrical problems and it's the most over looked item when it comes to fixing a problem.
As for the title of my thread. I can't even stay on topic through one post. I'm sure as hell not going to try it for a whole thread. How 'bout those Mariners? Damn... see what I mean!
WRXnFX 01-15-2002, 07:30 AM Sounds like you have been busy on your truck. I can see why your wife is hesitant to let you get a WRX. I can read your enthusiasm. Sorry, Kris left you out of our weekend fun this weekend. It's my fault, too. You mention math and electrical power consumption. I'm a bit rusty but I could use your help on an upcoming project/mod that I would like to create.
Resbum 01-15-2002, 03:09 PM Winslow - 2:30AM post. Up late or up early?:)
Kris didn't leave me out of the loop. I talked to him Sat evening on the phone and he said that you guys would be working on stuff Sun and to give a call. Unfortunately, I got a call from work 6:30 Sun morning and then couldn't make it over.
The truck's been my on going project for the last six years so I've had plenty of time to do all that stuff. Electronics was my field of choice in college. Once I started working I found that I couldn't stand it. That's how I ended up in the Reserves and Guard. $$$$ on education is always well spent, but I sure wasted mine spending it on electronic technology.
"...an upcoming project/mod that I would like to create." You got my attention. What do you have in mind? Hopefully something cool like Counter-radar Evading Capacitor's!!! :D
RallyX13 01-15-2002, 03:40 PM Just don't get Eric started on his "Back to the Future" idea!!!:D
Kris
Resbum 01-15-2002, 04:07 PM RallyX13 - Please tell me that Kapafool isn't a closet "Trekkie". I was just starting to like the guy.
Can you see him with pointed ears saying, "That is totally illogical, Winslow."  Gawd,... I crack myself up!
Kapafool - I've been working alot of nights lately but will be on day shift Weds. Are going to be around iso(#1221) then? If so, you want to go to lunch Weds.?
RallyX13 01-15-2002, 09:43 PM Not a Trekkie, he just loves talking about the Flux Capacitor on the DeLorean.
Kris
KapaFool 01-15-2002, 10:53 PM Resbum - We gots a barbeque at the isodock on Wednesday so I cants go. We're having roadkill moose and some beans so just look me up at work anytime. Live long and Prosper. :monkey:
Resbum 01-16-2002, 03:25 AM Kapafool -
WRXnFX 01-16-2002, 05:42 PM Resbum: I'm ususally up late at night replying to these posts. Plus, homework keeps me up. I spent eight years in the Air Force working electronics. You can imagine how bored I get looking at that stuff. But, when it comes to something for the car, you can count on me being focused. I'll PM you with me idea. It isn't worthy of this forum. There are a few of us that want to come over tonight. Are you busy? Wanna do some port polishing?
SQUAD_907 01-16-2002, 05:54 PM where are u gonna work on your car at? isn't kris gonna be out of town? are u trying to be all top secret again, winslow?
(26 words)
WRXnFX 01-16-2002, 06:02 PM Not being Top-Secret. Yes, Kris is going to be out of town. Good thing you got your BOV installed then because you would have to wait until next week. I'm still trying to work out the details but I'll call you and let you know. Winslow
SQUAD_907 01-16-2002, 06:13 PM sounds good...i'll just be at home anyways doing homework...:( give me a call when u work out the details!
(19 words)
RallyX13 01-16-2002, 06:52 PM Yes I will be gone until Monday, try not to miss me too much!!
:D
Kris
KapaFool 01-17-2002, 12:26 AM Winslow, are you gonna help me with headlights? I gots the paint and a tool to port the TB.
Resbum -
I think you are the gauge expert here. I need some info on the EGT sensor and AF sensor from Autometer. I am ordering an EGT gauge soon and there is some stuff I need clarification on. (whew, I hope its spelled right.)
WRXnFX 01-17-2002, 07:36 AM I'll help you with the headlights if you help me with the gauges. Just got the Omori gauges in. They all have peak hold and warning. Can't wait to get them in. I still can't get a general consensus on EGT probe location. I've read too many opinions to make a correct call. AF gauge will be next. I have a trick mount coming soon. I'm down for the TB polishing, too. Remember, we have brake lines coming soon. By the way, you owe me some money. Winslow
Resbum 01-17-2002, 12:04 PM Gotta get ready for work!!!!!!!
when and where? Could be here if you want. Need time to clean off the work bench, though. reply, pm, email or call. Like i said Winslow, I'm off for the next six days. Later
WRXnFX 01-17-2002, 04:19 PM Man, we could do alot of work in six days. Don't worry I'll be taking you up on your offer. Winslow
KapaFool 01-17-2002, 11:22 PM I'm gonna need help with a flywheel next week. Either Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, but hopefully I can get it in before the meet. I hope Winslow can get my exhaust by then also. Hurry Winslow!
Oh I'm off for the next 4 days so call so we can get to work on your gauges.
Resbum 01-18-2002, 02:06 AM Sorry for not getting back to you right away. The last few days have been hectic.
Kapafool - Do you have my number? Give me a call or get it from WRXnFX1974. I guess I could email you. I have a transmission adapter for my 3 1/2 ton floor jack. I don't know how well it will fit under a Subaru, though. I'm not so much a gauge expert. I just really dig into stuff before and as I do something so that I know what the H*** is going on when it doesn't work after I get it in. What questions do you have about EGT and AF sensor's? Just remember, this is my first dealings with turbo's and fuel injection outside of what I've read over the years.
WRXnFX1974 - What do you have going on in the next few days? Do you want to try and hook up at my place with the above named scoundrel.
KapaFool 01-18-2002, 03:34 AM Resbum - check yo mail, I would post it on the board but all my adoring fans and stalkers would find me!
Resbum 01-18-2002, 03:41 AM More likely the police and collection agencies:lol:
KapaFool 01-18-2002, 03:43 AM Heyyyy! I hope you didn't tell the pohlis cuz they don't knock.:monkey:
SQUAD_907 01-18-2002, 03:59 AM i still need my kartboy bushings installed, a new 'g' for my www.akautogear.com or www.akautocear.com windshield banner...the tail fell off of the 'g' and now looks like a 'c'... and hopefully my sti front grill will be in so i can install that before the meet!
(47 words)
oh yeah...headlight mod too!
(5 more words)
Resbum 01-18-2002, 05:19 AM AK_WRX had the last post on every thread. I couldn't allow that now, could I? I watched him make posts to the last three threads, waited four minutes and posted this.
WRXnFX 01-18-2002, 07:05 AM The Kartboy bushings take 15 minutes to do. We should plan on doing the headlight mod too. We should try and hook up this weekend. I posted my schedule on another thread. I'll call everyone this weekend and see when the best time will be. WHTDVL is dying to do the throttle body mod to his car. Too many mods so little time. Just remember take your time and do it right. Winslow
SQUAD_907 01-22-2002, 06:05 AM you didn't call me this weekend :( ...i guess cuz i'm by myself in the www.akautocear corp ...:(
WRXnFX 01-22-2002, 06:49 AM Sorry, We thought you had an Amway meeting. We will get together before the meet to polish up everyones rides. Winslow
RallyX13 01-22-2002, 01:33 PM Chris,
Let me know when you want to come over this week and do your shifter bushings. I will try and get the piece of vinyl from Eric so that I can fix your windshield banner. I am pretty much open the rest of the weeknights for now, so book early!
Later....Kris
SQUAD_907 01-22-2002, 02:46 PM if that's the case...then i would like to make an appointment for wednesday evening! :D
RallyX13 01-22-2002, 02:54 PM I will pencil you in, does 6pm sound good?
Kris
SQUAD_907 01-22-2002, 03:11 PM sounds good...i'll be there at around 6 then!
WRXnFX 01-22-2002, 04:13 PM 6 sounds good for me too. Can I schedule for the same time? Winslow
RallyX13 01-22-2002, 04:53 PM I am getting the ramp put in so that we can fit two cars in the garage at the same time. So that should work.
What are you doing tonight Winslow? I am thinking I need to go toolbox shopping.:D
Kris
SQUAD_907 01-23-2002, 05:10 AM get a dremel or a rotazip...
WRXnFX 01-23-2002, 07:06 AM Since this thread covers almost every member in the forum, we should post any off-topic comments here or at least start a thread that indicates a general off-topic title. Winslow
SQUAD_907 01-23-2002, 06:14 PM everyone unite under this banner!
RallyX13 01-23-2002, 07:48 PM Not after tonight.....:D
KapaFool 01-23-2002, 10:03 PM Thats what happens when icescrapers go bad!
WRXnFX 01-24-2002, 08:00 AM That's what happens when the short guy can't reach the top of the windshield. Winslow
SQUAD_907 01-25-2002, 04:07 AM hey i'm short!
WRXnFX 01-25-2002, 08:14 PM Nothing against short people but he didn't do a good job look at what happened. Damn Eric! Icy Hot Stuntaz in da hizzzzoooowwwwssss. Winslow
SQUAD_907 01-25-2002, 11:54 PM that's true...but he's still second in command in my www.akautocear.com corp! we say bring it stunaz!
KapaFool 01-25-2002, 11:58 PM I'm sorry but your corporation has disappeared like ENRON. I pity da fool who thinks AKAUTOCEAR.COM is still around.
SQUAD_907 01-26-2002, 12:01 AM how true...i sold out to www.akautogear.com...but the dream of www.akautocear.com still lives on and may someday make a return!
WRXnFX 01-28-2002, 01:32 AM I'm grateful to have you guys around. What would I do if I needed to turn the lights off at Ben's house? Winslow:lol:
Resbum 01-29-2002, 12:11 PM Winslow - Thanks for the hard work. It was good to meet you guys and gals. Sorry I couldn't stick around for Red Robins. Next time.
I am disappointed that no one has posted any comments about how sharp my wifes Camary is, though.:)
WRXnFX 01-29-2002, 02:31 PM I couldn't see it through her long coat. What does it look like? Oh, you mean her car! It wasn't too bad but you should have parked it with the Subies. Winslow
KapaFool 01-29-2002, 11:08 PM Is that the yellow tweety bird or the multicolored one? I didn't even notice your wife brought a bird. Cold weather is bad for them.
Resbum 01-30-2002, 12:15 AM Everyone's a comedian!
RallyX13 01-30-2002, 01:48 AM Nothing gets by these guys....
