Is it really necessary to change your airbag control module after an airbag deploys?

Enough so that every insurance company on the planet pays for a new one instead of accept liability for not doing so. It's designed for one-time use and meant to be replaced. Not that it definitely won't work again, but there's no point in skimping on safety.

When the module records a deployment, it stores a code and triggers the airbag light. That code can't be cleared.
