Is it worth getting an extended warrenty, given the modding that my car is going to undergo?

What modding can you do before your warranty is only good for making into a paper aeroplane?

If you plan on keeping the car for an extened period of time or if you would like the additional coverage, then yes you should get the extended warranty. But, if you plan on getting rid of it within three years then I wouldn't spend the extra cash. If you do get rid of it before the extended warranty is up then Subaru will pro rate your warranty and refund the difference. Remember with any additional service or option, they are negotiable. As for the modifications and warranty, Subaru will have to determine if the modifications you performed caused the malfunction or defect. Of course, they will always threaten or imply that your modification caused the problem.

It also depends on how much of a dick the dealer wants to be. If you do a mod that increases the engines performance, they could pretty much say any drivetrain related problems were caused by it. Because it wasn't designed to handle the higher power. I don't know how the Anchorage dealer feels about modifications though, so somebody else who's delt with them should comment on that.

Why don't you guys talk to Jake at the Subaru dealership. He has a WRX and does a little mods to it. He also autocrosses a lot during the summer and hammers on his car pretty hard. He might be some insight to the warranty thing.

I am not a post whore.....I might be a post slut.

For the dealer to officially determine if your mods created the problems, is not an easy task. It cannot be done on a whim and is a long process. GetaGrip is our closest ally. He'll have answers.
