NEW YORK, CNNMoney.com -- The Toyota brand has lost its top position for iron-clad reliability, according to an influential Consumer Reports survey released Tuesday.

The survey dropped Toyota from first to fifth place - behind Honda, Acura, Scion and Subaru - in average vehicle reliability. The rankings are based on average predicted reliability for all models sold under a given brand.

predicted????????? wow.....

How about some ACTUAL information before making a judgement though?

Im not quite sure how companies are allowed to make such statements based on "predicted" information... Maybe i can buy the same crystal ball they use??

Yea, it's called statistics.
They know that if XXXX number of cars have this kind of engine problem this year, they can extrapolate that number for next year and even include other vehicles that share the same engine or same tranny, etc.

I am very much not surprised in Toyota falling some in these surveys. I have posted it before - they are growing quite quickly, and the more cars they sell the greater number of problems that will arise - even if the actual percentage stays the same. Selling 5,000 cars with 1% of them being prone to cracking it's muffler bearing or having a leaky headlight fluid reservoir is "only" 50 pissed off customers.
Selling 200,000 of the same car, and you have 2000 pissed of customers.

However I still don't see this as a failure of Toyota's quality, and instead see it as more isolated incidents.

Ficksed.

Taking 3 out of the top 5 spots sounds pretty damned good, actually...

You actually think toyota has something to do with subaru's reliability. They only own 10%. not 50. Using your logic you could say Subaru took 3 of the top 5 spots.

Of course not, but it makes about as good of a headline as CR's headline...

Then again, after 6 rear wheel bearings, 2 rear half-shafts, 2 rear hubs, 2 sets of head gaskets, a radiator and a long-block between the two Foresters we own, I'm not real sold on Subaru reliability...

How about some ACTUAL *reading of article* before making a judgement though?

Fixed. The data is from surveys.

The V6 in the Camry isn't the problem. It's the 6 speed transmission that was the area of complaint. It has since been fixed. Expect to see it back on the recommended list for next year.
