With the passing of one of WRC's most captivating drivers and personalities, many enthusiasts around the world were at a loss as to how best to mourn Colin McRae's demise. One SCIC member stepped up with an idea to help others to express their condolences. John Penano with help from other members, worked together to plan a candlelight vigil with moment of silence for the fallen driver and family. Starting out on a cool and calm Monday night at one of SCIC's long standing local meets at the Yorba Linda TGIF. More than 60 Subaru owners and rally enthusiasts appeared to show their support for the fallen Scotsman.

After gathering around to receive a memorial decal provided by Rally Innovations, drivers were grouped together for a casual drive to the vigil site. When it came to the place for the candlelight and headlight tribute John had found the perfect spot, Tri-city park in Placentia, CA. This park contains a man-made lake with two parking lots allowing owners to light up the lake in a bath of light emminating from both cars candles. All those in attendance found this location to be calming in helps to show a true appreciation for Colin and those on the helicopter. This provided solace for many and brought about a chance to share memories of Colin that everyone had. There were a lot of great stories from meeting him at Xgames, to his championship and even the classic videogame commercial of Colin growing up as a kid and stealing the family sedan to go rip up the scottish backroads. One thing is for sure he may be gone but he will never be forgotten. With this as a moment of closure for all, I was reminded of other Subaru Rally drivers that have been lost in the past few years. From former World Champ Richard Burns to cancer, Possum Bourne during a car accident en route to a local rally and both SRT USA driver and co-driver Mark Lovell and Michael "Beef" Park in an accident on a rally stage. The loss of Colin and all of these others should serve as a reminder that life is precious and to treat every moment as though you may not have tomorrow.
