Of course we had to put a PERRIN (http://www.perrinperformance.com) rotated turbo kit on this car. The only question was which turbo? On the internet forum boards, everything is all about the GT3582R turbo (http://perrinperformance.com/products/show/396/GT3582R-Turbo-Kit?category=5&model=2). This is a great turbo that makes big power but it’s not my personal choice. The last two cars I had were built to be very responsive. For this build the GT3582R (http://perrinperformance.com/products/show/396/GT3582R-Turbo-Kit?category=5&model=2) is too laggy and does not make for a good autocross/street car.

The turbo for me is the GT3071R (http://perrinperformance.com/products/show/391/GT3071R-Turbo-Kit?category=5&model=2), a bit smaller, bit more responsive, and still able to make 400WHP. We always tell people to buy the smallest turbo that supports your HP goals. We want to showcase the power that can be made on pump fuel and then on water injection.

To create a turbo kit for the 2008 WRX I had to design a new down pipe which was longer and must clear the fire wall. I designed these changes to also work with the new Legacy GT so be on the lookout for that turbo kit soon. The single most important part of this turbo kit was adding a CARB approved catalytic converter. Many consumers think that the only way to make power is by getting rid of cats. This is just not the case and with our last couple of PERRIN project cars, we had cats installed, and they both still made great power.

As the rotated turbo kit was being built right on the 2008 engine, we quickly discovered that the intake system had to be completely redesigned. So a few 3" bends, welding, and more of that red wrinkle finish! Just like our new turbo kits for the older cars, the air filter is now located in the fender well area to get the freshest coolest air possible.

Do you think people are really ready to remove material from the transmission to get your products to fit? I wouldn't think you would sell much that way.

If they make the decision to sell this as a bolt on kit I'm sure the downpipe will be redesigned so you would not have to remove material off the transmission.

I believe you have to do it with their other kits depending what 6 speed you have. People are constantly saying their kits do not fit well at all. I haven't personally tried yet.

Is that the same finish as the APS pipes?

Sorry, i missed these posts!

All of our kits use the newer Gt housing. This was a recent change to every kit.

While we do have a couple changes to do before the 2008 parts fit, moving the entire system over to fit the 5spd may not happen right away. The amount of material removed is very little, and took about 5min of work. The pics are a little exaggerated as to the amount of material. The kits were all meant to fit the STI (2.5L engines at the time) then secondly the 5spd cars. The 5spd cars are becoming more and more popular so this motivates us to make it fit these even better. But off all the people that have installed them on 5spds (besides not getting the oil line they needed) the tranny issue is not something customers complain about.

If they make the decision to sell this as a bolt on kit I'm sure the downpipe will be redesigned so you would not have to remove material off the transmission.

We offer this on almost every part now. The boost tubes, intakes, and other items are all starting to come in wrinkle red.

I believe you have to do it with their other kits depending what 6 speed you have. People are constantly saying their kits do not fit well at all. I haven't personally tried yet.
The only people that have issues with hitting the tranny is the 5spds and some 2005 6spds. There are some models that have some strange part in the casting that sticks out for no reason. If customers have problems and they called us, we took care of them. But like alot of things on the net, they get blow way out of proportion. We don't hide that we had some that didn't fit well, but customers were taken care of. Its silly to think that all have problems. With our newer kit we have also changed some things to help add clearance for the normal tolerance changes when welding. So the few problems once seen on the older ones, have gone away.

Is that the same finish as the APS pipes? Its the same finish as the STI intake manifold. Its a wrinkle red powdercoat. We have even done this for existing customers that have polished pipes and what not.

Might for race only setups. Likely not to have a flange at the rear to work with race only exhaust systems.

More to come!

uses the OEM exhaust manifold or our updated header system. Either one work well with the kit.

Thanks for asking!

Any updates/pricing on turbo kit? :)

The kit is on several cars right now finishing beta testing. Production will begin very shortly. I would expect pricing to the same as our current prices on 07 WRX/STi kits.

Let me know if I can help further!

Thanks again!
