As always the starting point to the front mount Intercooler (http://perrinperformance.com/products/list?category=39&model=18?nasioc) is getting it mounted to the car. Starting with one of our Steel Legacy GT I made a few simple cuts, some welding, and beam was done.

In order to get the intercooler to fit, I had to modify some of our WRX end tanks to allow them to fit tighter to the beam. I just grabbed a set with no holes and re-drilled them where I needed it.

With the core mounted, plumbing was next. Every tube on the 2008 WRX FMIC is completely different than any tube from our other front mount intercooler kits.
A little welding, grinding and off to the powder coaters they went for that perfect, STI wrinkle red finish!

Yes, it is! That is the exact thing you will see for the 2008 WRX, and maybe the STI. The only thing that might be different is the parts will look better than the proto!

Well yes and no. The PERRIN WRX, STI and Legacy GT FMIC all share the same core. But that is where most similarities end. The bumper beams are different from the early WRX/Sti vs. the Legacy GT vs. the new WRX/STi. We certainly use similar plumbing sizes, couplers, clamps etc. What we don't do is force the wrong part into a place it doesn't belong. Hence in Jeff's how to you can see the painstaking work involved in creating the proper endtanks, beams etc.

Also, little side note, his car was just featured in KONIG wheels booth at SEMA. We just got it back yesterday and we will have more photos coming soon. PLUS we have signed a contract directly with KONIG to offer some exciting new style of wheels through the PERRIN website to our clients like YOU! Stay tuned!

Perrin Jeff, looking at the piping returning from the intercooler to the TB, when the hood is closed, is this positioned directly in the path of the incoming air from the now vacant hood scoop?

I was thinking that if you mounted a few of those ARC cooling fin units on the pipe thats about 8" long (guesstimating) between the two silicone couplers under the scoop and possibly drop the temperature of intake charge some more.

That is true. You can see the red peaking out of the hood scoop.

What is the ETA for the FMI on the STi?

This is a long standing argument people have with boost tube routing and that going over the turbo is bad. But when cruising down the road, there is enough air flow over that tube that its not an issue at all. Those cooling fin things are cool, but putting them on a tube isnt going to change the temps that much. If you think about it, the tube has very little surface area touching the air in the tube. Esspecially compared to an intercooler where the fins touch alot more of the air. So while it will cool the air, its not going to do much. But at the same time its not going to hurt things either. On a fluid filled thing, i would say those are a good idea.

What is the ETA for the FMI on the STi?
The FMIC's will be shipping in about 5 weeks. You may have seen a couple floating around, or on Subiesports cover, but these were prototypes we made to start building hype on the part. In the next few days we have some really good results with stock FMIC vs. PERRIN TMIC, vs PERRIN FMIC. Should be good!

Things are TIGHT in this engine bay. So there will be some close quarters on this pip, but it isn't directly on top of it either. you can still remove the filelr cap, and fill the engine easily. But you might be forced to use a funnel (but shouldn't you anyway in all cases to prevent getting oil all over you pretty engine?)

Good to know the filler is still accessible without removing any of the FMIC piping. That was my main concern.
