Hydra (http://www.hydraems.com/) was kind enough to give us their first custom ECU for the 2008 Subaru's. Andrew (Hydra (http://www.hydraems.com/) head honcho) sent us 2 harness to try out on the car. The first harness completely removed the OEM ECU. Unfortunately all the new cars have immobilizers which will not let the ignition switch work without the OEM ECU being turned on. So we used the second special pass through harness that kept the OEM ECU in place.

I created a base map using Hydra (http://www.hydraems.com/)’s 2006 WRX base map and a fuel map from tune a long time ago. The car fired right up and it was time to take it for the maiden voyage!

So far so good! It is confirmed that it uses the same gears from the older 5spd RA gearsets. So that is a good thing! Thanks to Jeff Sponaugle for that bit of info!

Hold up just one sec... this may not be the right thread but... I MUST HEAR MORE ON THIS!!!

subaru said that the 08's are as listed below
(http://www.driveperformance.subaru.com/version4_2/feature.asp)

1st gear: 3.166
2nd gear: 1.882
3rd gear: 1.296
4th gear: 0.972
5th gear: 0.738

and i found this right here on NASIOC about the 5spd STi RA ratios:

3.083 (1st)
2.062 (2nd)
1.545 (3rd)
1.151 (4th)
0.825 (5th)

so did things change for some years? or is somebodys info wrong? (mine most likely) because if Jeff is right, then the cost of a new 08 tranny is very good compared to an RA gearset. and if they use the old gears in the new cars, then the gears should be stronger and better ratios compared to our "glass trannys" in older 5spd WRX's. also being that everything is leggy based now, that must mean that the 08 trans is the weaker push type clutch, or am i misinformed on that too?

if anybody could clarify, please do so!
