Up for sale is my Ural Concert CDD HU. Some of you may know what this is, most probably don't.

Basically it's a high end Russian HU made by a company called Ural. Ben from Elemental Designs saw an opportunity a while back to possibly expand his product lineup to include HUs. I'm not sure sure how he found out about Ural or their Concert CDD HU, but he imported some for an initial group buy. The group buy consisted of I want to say somewhere between 25 and 50 units, each pre-selling for $650. It was a messy process but Ben sold most of them off and the remaining few not too long after.

He realized he wasn't in a position to adequately sell more and provide service if need be, so any future plans he had for the continued sale were halted. As far as I'm aware, the group buy through ED has been the only source of these units in the US as Ural does not have a US distributor. If a person were to buy and import one, it gets costly. I've seen mentions of $800-$1000 plus. A few of these HUs float around from owner to owner once in a while.

I got my hands on one half a year back. I purchased it in a preemptive move to allow full x-over and TA support for my planned 3-way front stage. It's a great all-in-one HU. It's a more affordable option than Clarion's DRZ9255 and can actually play mp3s too, unlike the Clarion.

I am now selling it because I have shifted around my processing structure to a PPI DCX-730 instead, taking the processing needs off the HU and allowing greater HU options like double din nav and such.

The HU's packed wtih absolutely TONS of features. It is built more like a computer than a standard HU. It was developed from the ground up and essentially runs a dynamic software package on top of the hardware structure. It's more like a PC running Windows than a HU in the sense that the software is not fixed and can be changed. Ural provides continuous updates/fixes to the unit as needed.

A run down of some of the basic features you might use:
-5.1 surround sound/2-way, 3-way speaker modes
-30-band graphic EQ(limited to 10-band when using Tuner)
-6 independent output channels + 1 sub output(low pass @ 60Hz, sum of Ch1 & 2)
-full crossover settings for all 6 channels, pass through/highpass/lowpass/bandpass at 12/24dB slopes + frequency settings from 20Hz to 20kHz for any.
-balance control for every channel output, fully independent with 0.5dB steps
-time alignment for every channel from 0 to 5 feet in around 1/4" increments(shown in cm to 0.1 resolution)
-phase inverter for every channel
-CD supports mp3 and even Ogg Vorbis, WMA, Flac
-Tuner has worldwide support and is in 0.01 resolution(seriously)
-Tuner has an auto Search/preset ability(very neat)
-Signal generator sine/square/triangle wave, adjustable frequency from 20Hz to 20kHz, level from -60dB(off) to 0dB
-mic input
-user programable remote(can program any remote/IR device(PC/PDA/etc.) to the HU)

There's about 50,000 other things it does. Look over the manual. That covers pretty much everything.

My unit is the actual unit Ben used in his ED demo car for a short time...till he realized people spent too much time playing with the HU rather than listening to the speakers. I am the 3rd owner but only the second to actually run it. Ben managed to lose the mic at some point. I asked him about it but he has no clue where it went. If you want to use the mic feature, you'll just have to go out and buy one from somewhere. I'm also down to one remote as I managed to leave one on the roof of my car and took it for a trip down the highway...did not end well. You're free to use any remote you want, so that's not really a big deal. Just set up the buttons and you're done. Otherwise the unit is in 100% working, clean condition.

Selling price: $550

Russian and High Quality? Don't think I've ever heard the two in the same sentence....kinda like "Chinese Designed"...

Interesting though...thanks for the pics...I wonder..if its sold in Russia then why are the words on the faceplate English?..

Honestly, the case looks nicer than the unit. Good luck. I think most people will be scared to buy a Russian unit from a service point of view.

Well back in the late 70's early 80's peope were saying the same thing about "Japanese Designed"

But I am also curious about the English on the faceplate, especially if they do not have a distributor here in the US - unless they have one in the UK...

No clue, but I know it's been used through Europe to some level and has been in several competition winning cars.

Yeah, I know about the Russian stigma, and the unit does suffer from Russian text, mainly just the Tuner radio station info which requires you to retype in station info in English if you want English. The menu is in English but some text for a couple of the less used features remains in Russian. However, this could easily be addressed in future firmware updates, just takes some user feedback to get it done.

Despite being Russian, it's a damn fine unit although it is a bit of an engineering exercise with a lot of focus on design and features but some lack on ergonomics. It's a neat approach but more buttons would have been nice, mainly a menu, source, and a small arrow pad for moving around. It's just an easier approach than fiddling with the 6-axis button and doing goofy combinations with it to get around.

I'm not sure if it can be fixed with a hammer though... It does feel quite durable though.

Just leave your ''Imperial Ambitions'' at home.
I believe all this small firm works for military, and using hi end technology.
Hm,.. and everything that connected to Russian Military technology is Top Quality and Latest electronic technology.

Replied, and I'm fully aware already and have solved the dreaded "hiss" issue of the DCX-730.:p

Yeah, quite a few people have already said the same thing. Everyone seems broke or had just bought something else. It seems I have a bit of bad timing.:(

Hey X-mas is coming up.:D It'd make a great X-mas present:p

The Ural does NOT hiss. ;) lol Wanna buy it?
