Autocar is reporting that Lamborghini is preparing a lightweight, more powerful RWD SV model for 2009 that will end the Murcielago's production with a bang (or crazy amounts of burning rubber and engine revving, whichever you prefer). As with the Gallardo Superleggera, weight savings will be a key, and anywhere from 100 to 130 kg could be dropped from the LP640. The removal of the front differential and driveshaft will save 40 kg alone. Other weight savings will come from the use of carbon fiber and magnesium components, lightweight wheels, and the removal of the sound system, although it can be added back in at the request of the customer (who needs a stereo when you have Lamborghini's V12 behind you?). The final version of this 6.5-liter motor could have as much as 680 horsepower and 516 lb-ft torque that will be mated to Lambo's E-Gear transmission. Take that, Ferrari!

lets hope its true, i think it would be wild to have a rwd murcie. the weight savings would definitely be appreciated, and rwd lambos have always seemed the most badass to me. they fit the whole lamborghini style more than the awd's, more crazy, harder to control, that kind of thing.

So it's back to Bugatti and Subaru as being the only AWD only manufacturers eh?

Subaru makes several FWD cars.

In overseas markets, yes (the R1, R2, Stella are all available FWD)

But in the US Subaru bills themselves as all AWD.

Subaru of America is just a distributor. Subaru the manufacturer is not awd-only.

well, the CGT was RWD, so is the Enzo.. and the SLR, and the new ZR-1.. all >600 hp cars... There's 1. Traction control. 2. Huge tires.

The 'SV' script doesn't work on this car. It was acceptable on the Diablo, but looks like hell on the murci.
Look for one of these to be wrapped around a lightpole/tree/chevy in the near future, just like all the other 6+L 600+hp RWD cars out there.
