Hi everyone, just wondering which model you'd recommend to buy?

I researched this about 4 years ago,I do recall something in the 98's to do with an engine gasket leak or something?

How is the fit and finish?

How is the cars maintenance track record?

I'd probably be most safe with a 01 model correct?

AND,how does the car handle in snow for traction purposes compared to my former 2004 TS Sport Wagon?

Any help and advice is appreciated, thankyou for your two cents guys,

DD:)

the 99 is one of the best years for impreza; not just saying that because its what i own. Do some research, the 99 doesnt have a lot of problems. but dont just take my word for it.
friend bought an 01 RS and is happy with it.

SOHC vs DOHC is the only real difference in the year range you mentioned. SOHC on the newest cars is considered by most to be the better engine.

Fit and finish is similar in that year range.

Newest is generally best.

the 98-01 model year RS is lighter with wider tires than your 04 wagon. So they probably don't handle quite as well in snow, unless you get snow tires in which case the light weight can be an advantage. The difference is likely far to small to notice for the average driver though.
