View Full Version : Lighting solutions anyone?
soslow 11-26-2007, 08:37 AM Does anyone know of a good lighting upgrade for the 93-2001 impreza's. either projector, HID, or otherwise. I've seen the "upgrades" sold on ebay, not impressed. looking for something that replaces the entire assembly and actually improves the lighting significantly..
And I did search but couldn't find anything..

JDM HIDs perhaps? I just upgraded to a brighter bulb (look in motorcycle shops for bulbs that technically arn't legal on cars). Honestly it's cheap and very bright no need to spend a lot of cash.
Siper2 12-23-2007, 04:21 PM I'd start with just decent bulbs.

Obviously it'll only do so much, but you might be surprised.

italsupra10 01-03-2008, 06:23 PM I got silverstars and was very pleased. They're bright, but they don't look like those crappy $20/set bulbs you get on ebay.
soslow 01-09-2008, 10:09 AM Forgot about the morrets.. I think they look like crap anyway though (purely aesthetic, i'm sure they're great lights)... wish there was a lhd option out there that had a lense over the whole assembly, like these

appearently these are rhd only:sadbanana:

Thanks for the link! How do I figure out which kit is right for my 01 RS?

I thought you wanted an upgrade :(
Best upgrades are dedicated wiring harness + good bulbs, and/or infinity J30 projector retrofits.

That's the direction I've decided to go too... You can get "race only" upgraded bulbs that up to 100W LOW BEAM!!! Clearly that's WAAAAY to bright, but there are lots of less powerful choices. That's what I'll be doing.

I kept my standard low-beams, but added a relay (and high-temp harness) that keeps my low-beam filament on when I switch to high-beams...

Very cool! My problem is that my low beams are too dim (post STI swap), my high beams are fine. So new wiring and relays are in order I think, with fresh more powerful bulbs.
Da-Risin-Smoke 10-17-2009, 01:46 AM Has anyone here ever done a bi-xenon HID retrofit conversion?
I looked into lightwerkz and all I see is just single, no high beams.

Did you keep the sti HID lead wires when the swap was done, or is the RS lighting harness still in place?
If you have the STi wiring up by the radiator, the leads for the HID ballasts are pretty beefy (you can see them in my pic, above) and there shouldn't be any voltage drop if you use them.
Wire those to your low beams, and then use a relay for the high-beams, with those same lead wires as the main power source to the relay...
(It's exactly what I've done in the pic above...)
