The sixth generation Golf will be all new and among us by the end of 2008. Today we came across the new Golf in a giant sandbox during testing runs.
The VW Golf VI has been designed by Volkswagen's head designer Walter de Silva and VW is looking to increase the build quality while powering the new Golf with more economical engines. This would include a BlueMotion version and possibly even a hybrid model sometime in 2009.
The range will again consist of a three- and five-door model with a stationwagon coming later in the life cycle followed eventually by a GTi and ragtop convertible. But what we want to know is whether a new R32 is in the pipeline and how powerful it will be.

Idk, they kind of look similarish! Something about the headlights that seem similar. Maybe I'm combining previous generations of Foci with this one to make the connection in my head...

Nah, they're just testing the ride quality with 300lbs of subs oontz-ing in the cargo area. The next few tests will involve overly wide and tall wheels with stretched sidewall tires. I hear that this will not be released until the testers can prove that all 5 passengers can connect their iPods, plug in their electric guitars and operate the electric windows simultaneously. Any clashing of testers' pants with the tartan fabric could mean months in delays.
i agree that the current version is much better and less bland, whatever happened to cars have personality with differing looks....
bitterWRX 11-28-2007, 04:16 PM Wow... could that look anymore like an Audi? Talk about a lack of creativity.

Vostok 7
bitterWRX 11-28-2007, 04:22 PM Even though the front does not carry a lot of "Audi," the slant of those headlights and the shape are reminiscent. The rear taillights look like they came off the new A4/A5 and the elongated hatch with the low roof line is totally A3. It's lost the VW "bubbliness."
I see if even if you don't.
ommmjido 11-28-2007, 04:33 PM doesnt look so "Golf" to me anymore, dunno if i like it......

FaastLegacy 11-28-2007, 04:46 PM Didn't we just get the current generation Rabbit not too long ago?
Yotsuya 11-28-2007, 05:26 PM The new Rabbit is too expensive; this one will be cheaper to make
Chuck Jones 11-28-2007, 05:35 PM Roof line looks like it got higher. Reminds me alot of the jacked up roof on the 08 Impreza hatch. The general shape reminds me of the 08 impreza actually. Looks like we may shaping up for a generation of jelly bean hatches.
If the new GTI does look close to the renderings (with the requisite sporty add ons of course) I can see a total need for an aggressive car like the Scirocco.

VW to launch new Golf in 2008
05/04/2007 11:11
Hamburg - Volkswagen is planning to launch a revamped version of the Golf next year, the mass circulation Bild newspaper reported last week. .
The sixth generation of the popular compact car comes with new headlights, a large chromed grille and an altogether sleeker design, the newspaper said.
A VW spokesperson in Wolfsburg refused to confirm or deny the report. "We in principle do not comment on such speculation," he said.
Part of the VW cost-cutting strategy is to reduce the choice of engines in the Golf series and the number of technical gadgets.
In turn the car maker is planning to fit the new Golf with more high-quality interior materials and offer air conditioning as standard for all Golf models.
The engine range starts with the frugal 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine

Over the last six months, we've run a number of stories regarding the new sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf. As many Leftlane readers have asked, why is VW replacing the Golf so soon? The car has been on sale in Europe since 2003, and it just went on sale this February in the U.S., with the introduction of the GTI. This has caused some readers to doubt these reports. But the rumors are true, according to AutoWeek, and a new Golf is coming by 2008. The report indicates that VW boss Wolfgang Bernhard has pushed to have the new Golf released soon, because the current model is too expensive to produce, and inferior to the forthcoming model. The sixth-generation Golf will gain multilink rear suspension and a new body. As previously reported, the sixth-generation Golf lineup is expected to include an SUV, based on the Volkswagen Concept A
Hazdaz 11-28-2007, 07:58 PM Wait, wait, wait... isn't the current generation Golf going to be fairly shortlived because VW was worried about the blandness in it's design?!?... and after all that, they plan on replacing it with an even more bland car?!?
For VW's sake, I hope that rendering is WAY off.

Read the post above your's. Expense is the issue, from what I've read.
My GTI is not bland.

This is about the only image that's appropriate here - you're reaching man. The only thing similar is that it is a 5 door hatchback.
Time to visit the optometrist.

You don't think the front ends of those cars look similar in the first two pics???
I'd be making an appointment myself if I were you...(from the back of the first door forward they certainly resemble one another...

If you consider having doors, headlights, wheels and foglights "looking similar" then yeah they look identical, otherwise the only similarity is that they are both silver.

How about the hood-creases into the headlights (which are also similar)...
verdee 11-29-2007, 01:51 PM Not a big fan of the extra window in the C-pillar. Could this be closer to a new Golf Plus?
reynolca 11-29-2007, 02:26 PM How about the hood-creases into the headlights (which are also similar)...
About 90% of cars have similar creases on the hoods. If you were to look at the image you would notice that the crease on the Focus is concave and the crease on the golf is convex.
nick9871 11-29-2007, 06:53 PM I like the MKV look better, but I take it those pictures are not what the MKVI GTI will look like. Anyway, for those saying "didn't we just get the MKV?" the answer is yes, but europe has had it for 2 extra years. The US probably wont see any MKVI's until winter 2009 or 2010 at the earliest and they will probably replace the rabbit first then GTI/GLI then some sort of new R32 or R36(please god).
