This friday Audi will hold a press conference in Györ, Hungary which will see the unveiling of the new Audi A3 Cabriolet. No further details have been released yet but we are not expected any major surprises from another addition to the Audi line up. The styling of the front end looks very much like the current generation A3, but the rear end styling appears to be based on the A5.
Production had been rumoured to commence in Brussels, Belgium, but judging by the location of the unveiling, it looks likely it will be built at their Hungary production facility.
We had expected the A3 Cabrio to debut in Geneva so this premature unveiling comes somewhat as a surprise.

Eos is probably nicer and more convenient being that it's a regular car when the top is up.

Front 3/4 view makes it look like a PT Cruiser ragtop.

Seriously, why would Audi get the soft top while VW gets the hard top in what looks to be a very similar car?

If they had a hard time moving a $30k+ hatch in the US, I imagine this won't be any better. There is too much in brand competition, you have the EOS, TT (both of which ride on the same platform as the A3) as well as the A4 vert. Price-wise, I think it the A3 cabrio will step too much on the toes of the TT and A4. I, however, think that this looks better than the EOS. I really dislike how all the cut lines from the trunk and hood wrap around to the sides of the body. Makes the car look too busy.

Audi has taken the wraps off its all-new A3 Cabrio ahead of its official sales launch planned for February next year. The car comes with a folding fabric top, which opens or closes automatically in just nine seconds. The hood is available in semi-automatic and fully automatic versions, in the latter instance as a specially soundproofed acoustic hood.
The rigidity of the car’s body has been improved with high-strength, ultra-high-strength and hot-formed steels, as well as a large number of reinforcing measures. Inside, there is seating for four, and with the rear seats folded down luggage space increases from 260 to 674L with the hood up or down.
The A3 Cabriolet is being built in four engine versions, two petrol and two TDI. All of them are direct injection units with turbocharging. The performance range extends from 105hp (77kW) to 200hp (147kW).
The car comes standard with 17in wheels and a six-speed manual transmission. Optional extras include larger 18in alloys, an S-tronic automatic transmission, and a sports pack with sports seats and stiffened suspension. An S-line exterior styling pack will also be available.
