Anyone have any tips on how to eliminate the rear hatch rattle? I pulled the plastic off the inner side of the hatch, and the piece that covers the "hook" on the body. i tried loosening both sets of bolts, and opening and closing to the find path of least resistance, then tightening the latch and hook down(latch doesn't really have much/any adjustment) and i still have a rattle back there. i think the rattle is from play in the latching mechanism itself, but i don't know if there is any way to tighten the point where the latch "latches", or if its just wore out and needs replacing. anyone know if theres any adjustability in the latching mechanism? when opening from the outside, it takes almost no pressure when you pull the outside handle to unlatch it, ive never owned another wagon so i don't know if the handle pull is supposed to be this light, or if this could be another sign of a worn out latching mechanism

any help is appreciated, thanks

I had this rattle a while ago, the hook where the hatch clicks onto has to be loosened and moved down(towards the rear seats) about 1 or 2 notches and tightened back up.

This seems to be a pretty common problem on the OBS. Mine also gets worse in colder weather.

Adjusting the hook position works for some folks but didn't help with mine.

The dealer service dept said I needed a whole new locking mechanism for about $250...I passed since the lock was working fine.

Some folks have tried a sponge between the door and the frame to add a bit of pressure.

Another thing that can work is to replace the black plastic tabs on either side of the hatch/door itself(these look like a small wedge with a screw through it)--these tabs wear over time and do not fit tightly into the rubber pieces on the body frame.

Of course the problem with mine is that the PO appears to have tried to adjust the tabs and "weld" them in with adhesive sealant. If you can remove yours try replacing them. The cheap fix that has worked for me is to add a couple layers of duct tape over each of the plastic tabs basically making them a bit larger. This plus wrapping a small bit of tape around the hook and my door is quiet. Try it. One caution is that if you add too much the hatch will not completely close and will trip the dome light. The tape wears after a 3-4 months and the door starts rattling again. Take the old stuff off and redo.

Not a pretty solution but it works for me.

It also beat the advice a few folks gave me to just turn up the radio.

When I owned my '94 Integra years ago, a common thing for hatch owners was to wrap the hook with tape. Just one or two, tightly-wrapped layers. Not too thick, obviously. Maybe electrical tape, or thread tape.
