Thanks. sense of nature 12-04-2007, 12:31 AM I've installed them on a 96 OB wagon a little more vibes @ the lights is all that was - shadyrex 12-04-2007, 03:24 AM Yes you can do it. Check out scoobymods for the full how-to write up. jeisen 12-04-2007, 10:36 AM they did not fit on my 04 TS wagon... Kostamojen 12-04-2007, 09:43 PM they did not fit on my 04 TS wagon... Yes they do dstan 12-04-2007, 10:44 PM Great mod with lots more noise FTW :D jeisen 12-04-2007, 10:51 PM I went to one of the local subaru shops to have them installed. I then was on the phone with SOA, the dealer, and here are the pics we took. No one could tell me why it didn't fit, but it didn't. Here you can see that the Group N's were larger than my stockers... http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t232/worldrallynut/DSC02403Small.jpg And they basically hit the little bumps on the left side on the bottom. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t232/worldrallynut/DSC02400Small.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t232/worldrallynut/DSC02399Small.jpg the stock mounts fit inside those bumps. edng97 12-05-2007, 12:44 AM Thank you so much for the info. Thats exactly how all the 1990 (legacy) to 07 engine mounts look, like your original ones. I thought they wouldnt fit, but unlike your local Subaru techs, mine knew what they were doing and installed them no problemo. The group-n ones are larger on purpose, you have to "pre-tension" them slightly when installing. rougeben83 12-05-2007, 12:03 PM Mine had the bumps. The guy got them on without any problems. I've had them on for 6 months now. Extra vibration from idle to 2k...enough to shake the mirrors a little...but the extra throttle response is nice. jeisen 12-05-2007, 02:15 PM good to know that it was the shop's fault. I might try them again someday. RS Guy1513 12-05-2007, 02:35 PM i just ordered my group n motor and trans mounts...merry f-in christmas....to myself...everyone else gets their gifts on x-mas haha. looking forwards to them though, will post with an update prob sat after install edng97 12-05-2007, 08:20 PM What do you mean by "pre-tension" them before installing? I am located in the Bay Area. Know any good shop who will know how to install them? Also, is there a Group N tranny mount for AT? Thanks. shadyrex 12-05-2007, 09:23 PM Also, is there a Group N tranny mount for AT? No, this is as close as you get http://www.rallitek.com/trmoautr.html Kostamojen 12-05-2007, 09:50 PM What do you mean by "pre-tension" them before installing? I am located in the Bay Area. Know any good shop who will know how to install them? LIC Motorsports ( www.licmotorsports ) up by petaluma can do it, so can GST Motorsports ( www.gstmotorsports.com ) in Hayward. edng97 12-05-2007, 10:38 PM Cool. Now I can upgrade the engine mounts and the tranny mount. Thank you very much for the info. Suba_Roo 12-06-2007, 12:35 AM When I installed my group n mounts on my 01RS they came with the silver metal bracket that bolts to the engine. When I installed the mounts using the silver metal bracket they did not fit, exactly the same way as shown in picture above. I transferred over the stock engine to mount bracket and it fit perfectly. I'm not sure if that applies to the later model, but take it for what it is. The install was surprisingly easy. Just follow the instructions on scoobymods I did the install myself, but get more complicated work done at Autoheadquarter in redwood city and have always been happy with their work and prices. Just an FYI, I've been advised that if you are doing the group n mounts that you should also do the group n transmission mounts at the same time. RS Guy1513 12-08-2007, 05:39 PM i just ordered my group n motor and trans mounts...merry f-in christmas....to myself...everyone else gets their gifts on x-mas haha. looking forwards to them though, will post with an update prob sat after install *UPDATE* Took about 3 hours to install trans and motor mounts. make sure you have a ratcheting combo wrench when doing this!!!! car feels sooooo much more solid shifting and when going from accel. to decel. there is no more delay when getting on the throttle and that bouncy feeling is eliminated. there is a slight increase in NVH throughout the cabin, but i think when they break in a little bit it will quiet down some, since they only have about 5 miles on them. *UPDATE 2* After putting about 50 miles on them, there seems to be a lot of resonence throughout the cabin around 3k...ALOT. Also there is a metal on metal rattle upon decel, and a metal on metal sound when going into first gear sometimes, which i think is coming from up top inside. Has anyone else run into these problems? just looking to see if it's a common problem and what the solution is. When putting on the last 2 nuts that hold the mounts to the crossmember, the motor shifted about 1/2" in the slot...possible culprit? RS Guy1513 12-09-2007, 10:36 PM ^ anyone heard of this? rougeben83 12-09-2007, 10:46 PM Look to see if there's any contact with the exhaust manifold, crossmember, etc. At least on my car, the Group N mounts are a little shorter and lowered the engine a little bit. RS Guy1513 12-10-2007, 08:04 AM i'll have to look at that..there must be contact somewhere because it shouldn't resonate as much as it does...maybe it's contacting my ricer ebay UEL  ...hopefully today or tomorrow i'll get a chance to check it out sense of nature 12-10-2007, 09:11 PM OMG I had the same noises when I put em in my Leg O.B I just deal w/ it But there maybe more to it obviously, like changing the pitch angle of the output shaft RS Guy1513 12-11-2007, 08:04 AM OMG I had the same noises when I put em in my Leg O.B I just deal w/ it But there maybe more to it obviously, like changing the pitch angle of the output shaft so glad i'm not alone on this one...keep an eye on this thread i started regarding this problem for some info if it comes up http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1404095 unicornbc 02-11-2008, 11:40 PM I have the same noise after replacing the 5 speed Tranny mount with the STi item on my Outback Leacy....3000 to 4000 RPW strong exhaust resonance that was not there at all before. Basically the only side-effect. All the upgrade bits are nice if you don't mind a little cabin resonance around 3.5k. It can probably be addressed quite successfully with automotive sound deadening. That's a spring project of mine.:p If you've got $1k to spend, you can go through the entire car and replace every squishy, rubber bit and create a whole new aniimal of a car: crisp, precise, responsive, direct. rougeben83 02-12-2008, 12:51 AM a lot of people say the tranny mounts add a lot more noise, for not a lot of extra positive gains...I would do the engine mounts first before doing the transmission, even though the tranny mount is easier to install. |
