New Passat Coupé is aiming to tease!

Teaser campaign on Volkswagen’s website reveals close-up details of four-door Passat Coupé

The new VW Passat Coupé has emerged from the shadows – and these are the first official images of the German firm’s sleek four-door.

Taken from a video on the manufacturer’s website, the dark preview shots reveal that the stylish four-door has a low, sweeping roof and a distinctive crease along the waistline that rises sharply towards the rear. Here you’ll find a high-set tailgate and large wraparound light clusters.

At the front, the Passat takes its inspiration from the Eos coupé cabrio, with a large chrome grille and slim headlamps. Under the rakish exterior will be standard Passat mechanicals. However, entry-level models should get a 170bhp version of VW’s 1.4-litre TSI turbo and supercharged powerplant. Buyers wanting a diesel will have the choice of all the existing TDI engines, plus a new 2.0-litre oil-burner.

Top-of-the-range versions get a 3.2-litre petrol V6 with the option of 4Motion all-wheel-drive or VW’s DSG sequential manual gearbox. The new Passat Coupé is scheduled to make its world debut early in 2008, possibly at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The first UK examples should hit showrooms at the end of 2008, with prices starting from around £20,000.

In an effort to stay strong in the U.S. and an ambitious plan to increase sales to 800,000 by 2018, Volkswagen (http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/02/14/vw-passat-cc-pricing-will-be-under-27000/#) is looking to offer its models to the North American market at cheaper prices. When we saw the Volkswagen Passat CC at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show (http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/01/13/detroit-auto-show-vw-passat-cc-does-the-four-door-coupe-thing/), we were afraid that if pricing was over $35k, it may follow in the ill-fated footsteps of the Phaeton. In a recent interview with Automotive News, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, Stefan Jacoby, said that the Passat CC will be priced below $27,000. The CC is supposed to fit between the regular Passat at the upcoming Phaeton that may come back to the U.S. with a smaller-wheelbase and diesel options.

The Passat CC lineup will start with a 2.0 TSI unit that produces 197 hp and a 3.6 FSI V6 that produces 276hp. Both engines are mated with a 6-speed automatic Triptronic transmission. The Passat CC 3.6 V6 FSI is offered with 4MOTION all-wheel drive (http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/02/14/vw-passat-cc-pricing-will-be-under-27000/#) as standard equipment and has the ability to do 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds.

Jacoby is leading the charge to turn Volkswagen around with vehicles (http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/02/14/vw-passat-cc-pricing-will-be-under-27000/#) more suitable for U.S. buyers. He is also pushing for the Polo to make it to the U.S. along with a production version of the Space Up! blue concept.

AT $27k, they might go somewhere with their sales but if they can get over their reliability issues, then it can be a success. I don't know if it's the pic but that grille looks gargantuous!

I notice this with alot of the new cars.I think it is the new Pedestrian Crash Standards that make the grill and front ends look so big.

Starts at $27k?!? Wow, that is a hell of a nice near-luxury car for about $30k! (even though I am sure the price skyrockets after just a few options)

If VW can promote it correctly, and keep it's quality up, this could definitely be a big hit for them.

They should make that one giant door so that it is actually a coupe.

The back looks like a current Corolla getting pulled through a time warp, and the wood across the dash and gauge cluster remind me of an old Buick.
