Ok, here's the deal.

I am rebuilding my 2002 wrx engine, and the entire engine is still completely out of the car.

I previously had a generic stage 2 map, flashed on the ecu using ecuflash.

I'm trying to flash back to the stock map but am having troubles getting the car to enter test mode, so...

1. Do I have to have the engine in and the wiring harness hooked up for the ecu to enter test mode?

2. If not, does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to get the stock map back on the ecu?

I would have thought an engine in the car would be the reason.

find an 02-03 and swap the ECU you want to reflash into it and do it on the running car. I would think that the ECU would be pissed by having so many sensors disconnected that it wouldn't want to enter test mode.
