Hey guys need some advice.

I am looking for a turbo that would make a good hp, good spool and still be safe for engine (07 STI)

Following parts are waiting already.

Tial 44mm ewg / with 20 psi spring
UR upipe, Greaddy headers
Helix downpipe/ G200 catback
APS 525 FMIC
worx BOV
Perrin boost solenoid

So I was looking at 20G 8cm, FPgreen, Blouch 2.5R, and Blouch DOM3.
Let me know guys, i also might consider getting Meth injectrion.

if all you want is to make good hp with good spool and still be safe, any of those turbos will do. your "goals" are too vague...

what are the plans for the car? just a modified street car or is it going to be tracked? autox? drag?

Dom 3

looking for a good street setup.
Isnt the dom3 is to much for the stock engine? i know it spools the same as FPgreen

You mention quick spool and safe for car, consider the FP 20G with the TD06SL2 wheel instead of the H wheel. It's a new design with a quick spool, see Forced Performance's website.

I see another busted piston thread coming

make sure you get some good engine management ;)

not sure if it helps. i have an 06 sti (same as 07). FMIC, 820 injectors, fuel pump, AP, custom tune, etc. and im running the FP green. i personally love it. the power holds through 7k rmps and it doesnt let out in 6th. like ive never run another turbo so i may just sound dumb. but just putting out my experiences seein if it will help.

If you are after increased power, but still want good fast spool, then look into TD05-20G or VF34.

edit: just checked your list of goodies, and it looks like you are wanting 350+whp. I would perhaps have a look into the Dom 2.5 or Dom 3. Both are ball bearing so should help with spool while making decent power with the right boost levels.

As suggested above, whatever you decide, make sure you have money for engine management/custom tune.

well i will go for a dyno tune with engine reflash.

i think the FP green is the ultimate street turbo, I for one am poor so im going the 20g route and all i want is 300 whp anyway on my07 wrx

Element GT52. Good spool, pulls like a train.

FP Green definately. Its a great turbo and matches really well with the STi 2.5L. Also might want to look into the APS units SZ55 and SR40. Good and bad things have been said about them but I have seen nothing but good. Just worth a thought.

I'd recommend the GT52 as well from personal experience. It spools fast for a turbo of it's size, and make a lot of power. I'm on stock internals, have a really good tune, and my car is running like a champ.

Element Tuning? They are over priced.
What would 20G with 8cm with EWG give me?

Search in proven power for 20g and green setups, they're all over.

Well i saw local guy selling his 20G element tuning and it was just ported and polished and it was fuking 1200 USED.

i think the FP green is the ultimate street turbo,
From what has been posted, the Dom 3 spools faster then the green and makes more power too :P

^You scare me. I have to say I researched and shopped a lot of turbos, and ended up with the GT52... over a FP20G, FP Green, FP Red, and the Dominator line. You're right, it's not the cheapest one of the bunch, but I didn't just randomly pick the GT52.
Believe what you will, but IMO, their turbos aren't "overpriced."

fwiw both the GT52 and Dom3 offer almost identical performance as they both use garret GT3076R compressor and turbine wheels.

The only difference that seems to be pointed out in Nasioc is that the GT52 is journal bearing and the Dom3 is ball bearing - however I can not find on Element's website if it is journal bearing or not.

If it is journal bearing, then the Dom3 will spool marginally better ;)

20psi spring is kinda stiff for a pump gas turbo. Don't forget injectors

can someone sponsor me for the turbo :D

Yeah good luck finding a sponsorer that wants someone who talks like you to represent their product.

same with me, i researched turbos for a good 3 or so months an talked to people with the turbos i was looking at before i actually decided on the GT52 turbo.

not cheap. no your right, but hell im also contemplating the Full-race header & uppie purchase too.......LOL

apparently you bought the wrong car to mod, as there is no real cheap way to mod these car to maintain a reliable amount of performance.

The GT52 is a Turbo I have owned and was blast to drive on my DD 04 STi, I can only imagine how much Fun this Turbo would be on your gearset. The lag is very minmal, I've had stocker/GT52/GT65 believe me I know what Turbo lag is. Yes the Turbo is Listed at an MSRP of $1900, but that doesn't mean you can't buy it for cheaper then MSRP. Just like the other people that are telling you they shopped around for the right turbo for their desired application, same is true for pricing.

Adding a Meth Kit is a great way to preserve your block and also bring out the awsome potential of this Turbo.

STI07LMT
12-22-2007, 05:09 PM
^ so you pay 900 for brand name, and 1000 for the actual turbo?

a Dom III retails for $1700

These are the price's for turbo's and they will only rise as the years pass, I'd actually recommend going rotated and save the money in the end, but thats just me.

Dom 3 or GT52 on pump and no meth make that and more all day too - and spool just as good :P

yeah, the dom 3 an GT52 were my too main choices. seem to perform about the same. i decided to get the GT52 just because element is in maryland, an i had to represent my state......lol. honestly it was a toss up for me between the 2. i dont think you can go wrong with either.

I have been through 6 turbo setups. from a td04 to a 35r.82. My fav as far as decent power and fast ass spool was a SBR TDO5H 20g! Spooled like a freaking big16g with the top end outperforming that of a 18g!

WARNING!.......enough is never enough! IM 500whp+ and still going haha

k cool i just did lots of researching and i have a pretty good idea of what i would need to do for a turbo upgrade...a week ago i got into an accident i was drifting and slammed into a curb and my entire right suspension is being replaced no body damage or engine damage but its all getting fixed through insurance..i already have rims and tires, springs, camber kit, gauges and gauge pod, and intake heat shield ready to install..just need my car back first for me to get started!!!!
ive heard so many different opinions on whether getting a BOV would be bad for the car or not and i dont know whether to get one or not..the HKS BOV from rallysport..what are all your opinions on BOV's???
Worth it, Not worth it, wont do anything different?

The bottom line is you have a lot of options. I run an SR56 on Meth and my car pulls like a tank all day long. The deciding factor for me was that my tuner recommended the turbo to me and he's one of the best on the scene.

My powerband is also very healthy, spool is good and I hit full boost in all gears.

It may be a necessary evil with a high boost setup(don't crush the stocker, that's just hack). If you do make sure you get one that can recirc. I think the HKS SSQ recircs. APS makes a VERY good B.O.V as well with twin vent (recircs when it can and vents to atmosphere as needed).
The only way to tune a vented to atmosphere BOV is with a Blow-thru setup ... or BIG MAF.

For those of you that want that performance to last AXIS FTW!

Turbosmart 50/50 recirc is what I just had put on myself for those days when 25psi just don't cut it :) Vents to atmosphere when needed. APS is a very good BOV Ive read of to many HKS SSQ with leaks.
