Has anyone run into an ecu that would refuse to take flashes from too much tuning? Just wondering if this was Cobb FUD all along, 100 reflashes always didn't smell right.

Eventually the programs start to get their files spread over the whole drive instead of just one spot. legav05 12-21-2007, 07:49 PM its like when you keep deleting and putting new stuff on your hard drive and not defragging it. No the same bits keep getting flipped. _someday_ it will not work, just wonder how far away that day is. hurricane123 12-21-2007, 08:58 PM I'm up to ~150 flashes and still going strong ... the day it gives out I'll just pick up another ECU. Jeff It would cost less just to get a cobb solution and tune by ram. hurricane123 12-21-2007, 11:16 PM It would cost less just to get a cobb solution and tune by ram. ~$200 used WRX ECU off eBay != $700 Accessport + $200 Street Tuner Jeff legav05 12-22-2007, 12:00 AM because when my ECU blows up I'm sure there will just happen to be a $200 ecu on ebay. riiiiiight. Tea cups 12-22-2007, 12:06 AM There's a theoretical limit, but no one has reached it. There's been no ECU failure that I've ever heard of from flashing in the Subaru world and there are some extreme examples of guys with over 1,000 flashes. So, while possible, it is highly unlikely this would happen for the average user. Freon 12-22-2007, 01:26 AM I have at least 100 on my main ECU now. Never seen anyone claim, let alone be proven that someone flashed an ECU too many times to the point of failure. mickeyd2005 12-22-2007, 02:16 AM because when my ECU blows up I'm sure there will just happen to be a $200 ecu on ebay. riiiiiight. Umm... there are literally dozens listed in the junk yard database www.car-part.com. The problem is really for cars with the immobilizer. Even if we acquired a used ecu, we would have to bring it to the dealer. Non-immobilizer ecus can be purchased from the junk yard. hurricane123 12-22-2007, 02:41 AM because when my ECU blows up I'm sure there will just happen to be a $200 ecu on ebay. riiiiiight. Found 2 that I could have next day with a 20 second search ..... although you were correct, they weren't on eBay. Don't kid yourself. I'd much rather have a $80 dollar tuning solution that is constantly developing, has decent support, and doesn't hide stuff from the end user. I doubt anyone will over flash an ecu before opensource goes to ram. gabedude 12-22-2007, 09:57 AM I have reflahsed mine about 165 times now at the least. |
