Made this tonight on request from a member. Hope it helps! :alien:

This video is for:
- someone who has never used Enginuity or datalogged their car
- someone wanting a quick primer on the basics of datalogging

This video assumes:
- you have the proper tactrix cable for your application
- you have installed the latest version of the openport drivers for your cable (these install as part of ecuflash)
- you have the latest version of Enginuity and its associated definitions installed
- your car and ECU are in safe state of tune (not going to blow up)
- you have your tactrix cable properly connected to the OBD2 port and to your laptop

Notes:
- my wideband reads erratically at idle because it's clamped to the tailpipe and sees fresh air. it reads normal as soon as exhaust gases begin flowing!
- upload your logs to Google documents, or copy paste them with abbreviated column headers to the forums, using the CODE tags.

I hope everyone can see what was going on. It was very dark. :(

Nice job!

I don't know if you are going to develop it further, but for noobs it might be a good idea to show the COM port selection in the logger that they will likely need to change and maybe even how to install the latest logger defs (this is simple but some are computer challenged). Maybe even show how the tactrix cable is connected. Also, I would log "Engine Load (Direct)" rather than "Engine Load (Calculated)" as it the actual load used by the ECU (i.e. more accurate) and will not impact your sampling rate when used instead of the calculated parameter.

This is some cool stuff. It will definitely be helpful to the learning impaired. (like me)LOL

good info thanks!

I may do the definitions etc in the EcuFlash demo movie. that does seem to be a sticking point with some users.

How do you get into dashboard mode?!?!?!

Thats the coolest thing I've ever seen and looks super useful. I'm always squinting at red lights to read my data.

go to the bottom of the logger, see the tabs?

make sure you only choose parameters in one tab. otherwise they will all be logged simultaneously (I think)

Nice work, this can really overwhelm someone that has not done it before, thanks for your time.

thanks benw this helps clear up alot of things for me. I will be doing logging soon once my custom TBE is finished and I want to make sure the car is safe. Much appreciated.

nice video mate. Very helpful :)

Do you think you could do another vid, but for tuning with Enginuity and reflashing your tune with EcuFlash :P

are the herps that prevelent there, that you need a defrogger switch?

just messin'.. good vid!

If you don't have a de-frogger switch, you can use the de-fogger, but it won't be nearly as effective, or nearly as imaginary.

I plan on doing an EcuFlash movie as soon as this flu clears up! :diaf:

LOL!

here's a question: when I flash my ecu, I plug two plugs in: 1 jumper plug that came with my tactrix cable, and 1 pr of wires together. Is it necessary to do both, when flashing?

if you have a 02-05 WRX I know you do. On mine (05 STI) I just have to connect the green test connectors.

Excellent movie, it really helped me out. I can get eginuity to log and work fine but I can't get ecuflash to read my rom, i think I have the definitions in ecuflash set up incorrectly. I've reinstalled both the cable and ecuflash and the cable is recognized, but when I try to read my ecu a window opens with "read" in grey and "cancel" as the only two options and no reading takes places... I'm waiting for an ecuflash movie i think. Thanks.

This is simply GREAT!! Thanks ai know oyu guys do this because of passion, would be nice having a demstration on how to save the ROM and how to look at it...

Thanks

ben, I'll be flashing the ECU tomorrow (a couple times, actually).. I'll try to video it..

If my vid cam will work, I'll try to video "reading" the rom from the ecu in ECUFlash, too.

cool, let us know how it goes! Tonight or tomorrow I'm doing a lot of flashes myself. I would like to post up videos of the process as well, to go with this first vid.

Thanks for the video!! It's very helpful....:D

Now I need to go figure out the dashboard mode.

Rogan

since the profiles for the logger are tab-specific, I created three profiles: logger_dash, logger_graph, and logger, for the respective tabs.

"by pressing the defrogger"

Nice work but that made me laugh!!!

You must have a great presentation skills. Awesome video!

ps: maybe you may want to state what to look for when analyzing the data... maybe top 2-3 parameters that you normally look to identify problems (value, trend, etc)?

benw

To enter dashboard mode go to the bottom and click the tab.

Profiles are tab-specific. Since I only use the dashboard mode that's what all of my profiles work on.

This is a great suggestion, but unfortunately it does open a big can of worms. Ultimately what makes tuning a car what it is (maddening, fun, difficult, time consuming, pick one), is extrapolating real data from logged data. Knowing your parts combination, fuel, weather conditions, engine dynamics, etc all comes in to play. And since I am still a novice, it wouldn't be right of me to make that sort of video.

nice vid... i kind of had to figure all of this out myself when i got started so i can see this being helpful to guys who are going at it for the very first time.
might not be a bad idea to have this be the first of many short video tutorials on various aspects of enginuity... installing files, connecting to the car, explanation of parameters (which still trips up most new guys), logging and what to look for, and then into what changes to make and other aspects of general and specific tuning.

videos will be on hold for a while guys. I was going to make it tonight. I lost the STI tonight in a big freeway accident, nobody could stop and we all piled up into each other (stalled vehicle in a construction zone, no shoulder to stop in, rush hour saturday night traffic).

I can shoot vids of some friends car, the tuning will continue! so stay tuned.

Yeah dashboard mode FTW, I used it the other night and it's so much more convenient. Now as mentioned I need to make a whole new profile as the one I use doesn't work when you flip to the dashboard tab. Real gay if you ask me.

UPDATE

thanks for the kind words, I was OK in the accident. My car was totaled though. However there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as I got full price for the vehicle (state farm insurance is #1) and I bought the car back from the insurance company and sold it to a guy on RS25 so he could swap everything. I retained some of my parts and have closed a deal for another 05 STI, and will be starting all over again.

since I have no car I have been tuning a lot of other people's cars lately and will try to make the ecuflash demo when I can.
