View Full Version : Tires, wheels, shipping....
AKSubie 01-30-2002, 06:23 PM Question For those of you that ordered a set of wheels from outside AK, be it from i-club, a magazine add, tirerack.com, etc.... did you get them with tires? If not would you do it if having to do all over again? Just wondering if it would be better to just order rims and buy the tires up here, or try and get them included in a set I'd buy.
Any thoughts or suggestions or experience on this?
Thanks
Sokudo 01-30-2002, 09:31 PM It's better to get the tires with the rims mounted plus it's cheaper too! Did u check how much the tires are here?I assume you're getting 17's.So what are u gettin? I'll go with the UK silver editions for the wrx! right size, offset and light!
AKSubie 01-30-2002, 09:41 PM Yeah, I was leaning towards the UK Silver, mainly for the same reasons, Subaru made, right size, weight, pattern, offset, etc... but just noticed yesterday the JDM (new B4?) rims Sugar is selling, they look very nice, did a side by side photochop, Mmmmmmm.....those JDM's look saweeeeet on mine. Look better than the UK's IMO.
SQUAD_907 01-31-2002, 03:04 AM too...heavy! go with the uk rims!
WRXnFX 01-31-2002, 03:42 PM I got my set of rims with tires. The tires aren't too bad and the shipping was easy. No matter who you end up getting them from , let Kris or I know before you buy them. We might be able to help defray the cost by using our shipping consolidator. They did help on my set. Winslow
AKSubie 01-31-2002, 04:08 PM Shipping Consolidator?
BTW, which look better, narrowed down to these 2. (left or right?)
WRXnFX 01-31-2002, 04:13 PM Right. The shipping consolidator lowers our shipping cost by consolidating freight that is going to the same location. Winslow
RallyX13 02-01-2002, 12:35 AM Ben,
The shipping can be considerably cheaper through the consolidator. It depends on how much stuff we are shipping at the time, and how many people can help split the costs. But if a few people order rims in the spring, it can save a bit of money!
Later...Kris
SQUAD_907 02-01-2002, 01:32 AM get the uk silver! i'm gonna try to get the gold set...i love that jdm look!
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 02:07 AM Yeah, although I like the anthracite look of the Newer B4 rims (left) I think economically and looks wise the UK silvers (right) would be better. They are actually a little darker than what I show, not by much, but a little.
As far as shipping goes, Dan said the price includes shipping "anywhere" so don't think I would save too much on the shipping there.
KapaFool 02-01-2002, 02:17 AM I need to order some rims too. My timetable was around spring before the snow disappears.
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 02:21 AM OK, I think I may just go ahead with the silver UK's, but now another question, I believe they come shod with bridgestone RE011's, which according to tirerack is high performance, how would these handle the snow? (If I were to mount early, I am currently running the stock RE92's)
WRXnFX 02-01-2002, 02:27 AM Dan? At VividRacing? Make sure and get the price he quotes you. He has a bad habit of changing prices and then charging more for shipping. If you pay by credit card he'll even charge you the CC fee of 2.5%. Which rims have you decided on? Winslow
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 02:50 AM Hmm...Thanks Winslow, I'll take that into account. I don't think he's raised it since I started talking with him (although they are more then the UK gold). But, I do still have his emailed qoute.
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 02:18 PM I think I may go ahead and order the silver UK's from Dan. My question still remains though, will these new RE011 be OK in the snow, comparitively to our RE92's. (you know just for the rest of the winter). And who is it that is running Kuhmo's, your doing alright right?
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 05:37 PM Well, Dan isn't there today, so I guess it will have to be next week before I can order them.
WRXnFX 02-01-2002, 07:09 PM He doesn't stock many hard to get parts. Another trick of his is buying direct and getting parts drop shipped. Then you get a bill in the mail for customs fees. Inquiry about that too. Winslow
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 07:27 PM Jeez, Your making me not want to buy any wheels from anyone. But thanks for the other heads up.
Oh yeah, there isn't anyone else that is selling these is there?
Amazake 02-01-2002, 09:48 PM i did a search for the same rim and tire combo
i will tell you this
dan is a snake
bottom line
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 09:59 PM HNDA-KLA - so did you finally buy them from him, or did you pass?
RallyX13 02-02-2002, 12:23 AM Ben,
I don't know anyone running the RE011's, but I am sure you could run them. You can run most tires, but I would just wait until the roads are a little better before you put them on. You do not want to get all the crap they put on the roads on your nice new rims.
But thats just my .02.
Kris
WRXnFX 02-02-2002, 03:25 AM Ben I'm not saying that Dan is a bad person to deal with. I'm saying that you need to make sure and get what is coming to you and not to get over charged. Winslow
