Well I got to work this morning in a snow storm so I knew nobody was gonna come in. Well I sold the JDM WRX trans I had in 98' L wagon so I needed to pull it out and get it boxed up so I pulled it and packaged it up.

Thats when the trouble all started...

My poor little 130k 2.2 has been leaking from every orifice it has for a while and I had planned on just doing a swap sometime this winter so I figured I'd pull it out too.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc271/ds1motorsportsinc/radio%20flyer/Picture038.jpg

Then there was this EZ30R I've been sitting on for a while...

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc271/ds1motorsportsinc/radio%20flyer/Picture042.jpg

It is a tight fit

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc271/ds1motorsportsinc/radio%20flyer/Picture044.jpg

Well long story short I now have a 3.0 H6 98' Impreza wagon. I'm pulling the wiring out in the next week to send to the master (Paul @ ECS) to get it all sorted out and putting in a call to Phil @ Element about getting a hydra to get it all started.

I took some pics along the way, hope you enjoy ;)

Oh, and does anyone need a 2.2?

Hey! I noticed you guys were located in woodridge, that is awesome. I used to go to PNL. But that seemed far away to where i am located in Naperville. But I am glad to see some Subaru Enthusiasts around my area.

if you can get the Hydra plug in for that car(which you can) you should only have to move over like 20 wires from the H6 engine harness to the 98 engine plugs and you'll be good to go. Glad to see you found a use for one of those engines. :)

SubIELove- glad you like :)

DoctorNick- pita getting it in lol (no pun intended)

TiC- I have to make custom headers anyway... ;)

kheff 46- n/a & ITB's

LloydChristmas- We're right by the Lowes theater on woodward, stop by any time.

PHATsuby- I have the legacy bulkhead harness so I was gonna have Paul just wire it up for the fly by wire set up, they have a hydra that supposedly is plug and play.

ol'skool- Gonna stay all motor, we've got an ITB set up in the works with some nice long tube headers and a little motor work we should be looking at around 400whp on 104 octane.

Damn you can't get a EZ GF first. I was planning on being one of the first. Oh talk to paul on the TBW there is a 2000 there with a Hydra and EZ that's just waiting on a tune that's running mechanical throtle. I'll be TBW on mine once I buy it but I"m also sticking stock ECU(piggybacked after it's running smooth) cause I'm swapping over almost all of the powertrain and updating as much of the car as I can. Besides a EZ should go in an OBS. Outback to Outback. Good luck.

Seraphinwolf- The car sitting at ECS is Mick's, it's almost done. It has the older Hydra in it. There is a new version that will operate the FBW :)

PHATsuby -only if it's 11:1 ;)

Yeah he's just needing his replacement TPS. A good portion of the OEM ECU parts from him. Well when he gets his but to MA from GA so he can find out what he still has for parts. I've talked to him a couple times. I"m sticking OEM still though unless that new Hydra can run right off the bat and still run all the features of the eninge. I also have ODB-II and don't want to deal with the questions during inspection every year.

I figure I'll keep adding info as I figure things out.

today's findings are if you get the SVX engine mounting plates you can use Group N or Cusco engine mounts instead of the sloppy EZ30 mounts. :)

Interesting. Maybe I"ll have to add that to the list of SVX pards I need to order. Cept the rest actually are for my SVX. Good thing to know though. Should post in the H-6 build thread.

^ actually got them in and found out the EG33 plates have the same twist as the EJ series do, just add an extra mounting ear. :(

The EZ30(D or R) use a flat plate style mount, so it looks like I'm off to the machinist again :(

Hey I was busy finding a cure for cancer dang it!

I ordered my bulkhead harness this week, probably get the hydra ordered next week till the open ecu guys show the ez30r some love. :sadbanana:

The big question is what gears to run in the 5mt (I hate 6mt's) and what final drive? Here are my options, now remember I'll be making well over 350 ft/lbs when I'm done.

PPG Helical syncro
Modena Dog Box (not very streetable)
Kazz (very short but I don't mind shifting alot)

Final drives: 3:70 / 3:90 / 4:11 / 4:44

Maybe I should start at 4:44 and work up

I love dogbox, pure secks ;p. Loud, crunchy......nice :D

I would love to do work for DS1 :D. Damn, we live so far from each other. I got word Machine Shops are closing like crazy up in the north, the only good thing about living here in Houston is the abundance of work and pay in machine shops.

I might just have to fly to Illinois just to see you get that H6 up and going :D.

DS1
02-25-2008, 02:22 PM
^^ jester has dibs on it :(

I've decided on a 5m with syncro gear set with really short ratios and a 3:90 final drive, this combo should net me a few more mph per gear.

I now have 2 EZ30R's in the shop, thinking about tearing one down and doing a little pictoral as I do the engine work. :)

BTW- A new EZ30 project just started here too

You're referring to their time attack car? Supposedly it's set to be done for the Redline Time Attack June 20/21, but considering it had no interior, cage or roof last time I was there, your guess is as good as mine as to whether it'll be finished on time. They're always really busy down there with customer cars, of course.

Should be pretty badass whenever they do get it finished.
