Please help. I recently purchased a Tactrix cable and wanted to flash to gabedude's stage 1.

I have an 06 5 speed WRX.

I hooked up the green connectors. I made sure they were connected by turning the ignition on, seeing the CEL flash, and hearing the fans.

Remove the key from the ignition. Open ECUflash. Plug Tactrix cable into laptop. The "Read" button colors in. Plugged in cable to OBDII port under steering wheel. Hit "Read" graphic button and the "Read" rectangle is grayed out. Flash graphic button on ECUflash is always grayed out.

I'm not sure what I did wrong. I updated the definitions for ECUflash. It just doesn't seem to read that the cable is in the OBDII port. I mean, is there something wrong with the cable? I just took it out of the box, blew the dust out of the port, and that's it.

Please help! I desperately want to flash to stage 1. Thanks.

Make sure you updated the drivers for the tactrix cable under control panel-> system-> device manager, then update the drivers with the drivers from ecuflash. I had to do that to get it to work and the past two days i have been loggin my car like crazy.

You removed the key from the ignition?

Did you put it back in? The key needs to be in the on position (without the engine running) to read/flash your car.

Really? I thought I read that the key should not be on until the prompt tells me to do so. I have not received such a prompt.

From the FAQ:
Do not turn on your ignition until prompted by Ecuflash to do so and when you do, immediately hit ‘OK’, otherwise reading/flashing may fail (any moderate delay on your part can result in a failure). Note: The engine should NEVER be running when reading or flashing.
So...

Green connectors together
Plug in USB and OBDII
Key in the on position?
Run ECUflash
Read

or

Green connectors together
Plug in USB and OBDII
Run ECUflash
Wait for prompt asking to put the key in the on position
Read

Thanks for the ongoing help :)

I just did this and got the drivers from "D:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\drivers\x86" and it said that there was no better match. So I suppose I already had this front covered. Thanks, though.

Go under file/options/ then check to see if the directories are mapped to the folders correctly. I had this same issue with my install of ecu flash.
You want to check
Rom File Directory.
Color Map Directory
Metadata Directory.

Alright, I figured it out. If anyone has this problem, please heed:

The reason why nothing showed up when I picked "Read ECU" was because I pointed the directory DIRECTLY to the WRX folder. Instead, you need to select the "Subaru" folder.

Flashed to gabedude's stage 1, drove for a few miles, loved it! Thanks :)

Drive it for a while then buy a downpipe off ebay. Flash over a stage 2 and love it more.
