View Full Version : Racing Team??
KapaFool 02-01-2002, 02:03 AM Mike said something about a racing team? I don't know about the fancy stickers and stuff but what does everyone think of running a car for the track this summer? Any volunteers for this? Need a car and pit team to help setup. And you can't forget the models.
AKSubie 02-01-2002, 02:09 AM Be sure to let me know, I sure would like to watch the models....uh...I mean race
AK_2002_WRX 02-01-2002, 02:14 AM i'm in:cool:
imagine what the people will think when they see all these WRXs line up:D
SQUAD_907 02-01-2002, 02:15 AM i gonna run my car this summer....get a baseline time and see what mods and a some tuning can do! that's my plan for the summer! i wanna reach the high to mid twelves!
AK_2002_WRX 02-01-2002, 02:18 AM i dunno if i'd actually run my car ,but i'll help everyone else out in the pit. i don't think i'm good enough to race. i'd probably hit a 17 with a car that can do 14 in the 1/4 mile:( , well i don't suck that bad, i'm sure i can do 14 with the right launch
KapaFool 02-01-2002, 02:18 AM I'll be there for the models......uh racing too. Maybe OFRDR will have some sort of mod to bring his car into the 12's also. I'll be there too if everyone wants to do this.
SQUAD_907 02-01-2002, 03:27 AM if u run a 17, then u don't deserve to drive that car! but i'm in for the team! we can have www.akautocear.com sponsor us too! i told u that they'd make a come back...like nWo!
WRXnFX 02-01-2002, 06:49 PM I'm down for support. I might even race. Winslow
AK_2002_WRX 02-01-2002, 08:08 PM i want to see the guy who has the nitrous make a run:devil:

I only wish I could run 12's! I'll be happy breaking 13's.I'm doing just a bit of power mods.everything else will be just for looks.

AutoXr 02-02-2002, 01:16 PM Keep in mind that racing can be more than straight line speed or turning in the same direction all day long.;)
Autocross (Solo II) season starts in 10-12 weeks. For those of you looking to get serious this year, check the rules at the SCCA (http://www.scca.org) website. Tires are available locally, but I usually order from Tirerack. Street tire classes such as STS and STX should be more popular this year too.
WRXnFX 02-02-2002, 02:34 PM I would hope that the racing team would expand its outlook to include more than just straight line racing. I have talked to many people who are interested in Auto-X. I'm sure we will participate. Winslow
RallyX13 02-02-2002, 02:35 PM I will be dragging quite a few of these WRX's out to the autocrosses this summer!
They just better hope that they will be able to beat me in my puny little Honda!:D
Later...Kris
AutoXr 02-02-2002, 06:25 PM They just better hope that they will be able to beat me in my puny little Honda!
Whoa! What about my wife in our red Miata? :D There's going to be some surprised people when she crosses the line.
Seriously, everyone needs to give it a try at least once to see if it's something they enjoy. I prefer it over dragging because it's more of a challenge to me.
RawCode 02-02-2002, 08:24 PM I WILL be autocrossing this year! hehe I have been practicing a lot this winter in my works parking lot.. yeah it is filled with snow but I now have a very good understanding of left foot braking and such.. :)

AK_2002_WRX 02-02-2002, 08:50 PM younger people need to fill out a parental consent thing right?
i think autocrossing is more fun because it requires skill, but i would want to run my car a few times this summer to establish baseline for my cay. but i would like to try autocrossing.
KapaFool 02-02-2002, 09:19 PM I,ve only tried it once in my old civic and I had a blast. The only reason I didn't do anymore was some scheduling conflict and I lowered my car way too low. I think it might be a little hard at first with the WRX since you have to keep the boost up. Jake seems like the only person to really flog his car through the track. I would watch him first then try to emulate. I think the RS with the right setup would be just as good. Or maybe not......RALLYX13? :p
I really want to get into autocrossing. I'm going to be gone May though October this year though. After that, I should have a Subaru, although my 240sx would be pretty fun on a course too. If there are any events before I leave or after I get back I'll try and make them.
Hey, is there an active street modified class up here?
RawCode 02-03-2002, 12:05 AM Jake used to own an RS, he loved it for autocrossing.. :)

AutoXr 02-03-2002, 03:09 PM I found that using basic techniques like "no coasting" (always on the gas or brakes, somtimes both) helps keep boost up. The only other tidbit I can offer is to anticipate when you'll need power and apply it a fraction of a second early so boost will be there.
After running the WRX last summer at a couple of events including the autox school I was surprised at how good it is in stock form for autox'ing. The biggest weakness that I found is the brakes (I was running 17's too) which get soft after a few hard applications/ left foot corners. For anyone looking to get serious, stainless lines, upgraded pads and fluid are a must-have for every class but stock.
As for Jake, he kicked my butt several times last summer. If you can emulate him, you should be driving professionally :D
RallyX13 02-03-2002, 04:03 PM Ron....I have no delusions of being able to come colse to Noel's times! But it will give me something to shoot for, now that I will be out-powered by the majority of the cars, and spinning the one wheel the majority of the time. But I had a blast in my Prelude, so hopefully this will do as good.
The RS does great for Autocrossing, I loved the fact that since it had the torque of the 2.5, you had power pretty much wherever you were in the power band.
AK_2002_WRX, Are you wondering about the waiver for yourself or for a child? If so how old are you? I am sure you will be OK.
Kris

AK_2002_WRX 02-03-2002, 08:01 PM yeah the waiver is for me. I'm only 17:eek:
RallyX13 02-03-2002, 08:33 PM Not a problem, we can get you one of those to make sure that you are legit before the race!
Kris
AutoXr 02-03-2002, 10:26 PM Eby - A couple of cars ran in street mod (SM) last year. One was a 2000 Celica while the other was a 2000 Camaro SS.
