View Full Version : Perrin BugEye 15K Stealth Exhaust DIY

We just finished road testing our Stealth Exhaust system and let me tell you this thing looks cool. The whole yellow and black combo that we have is very nice.

http://www.perrinperformance.com/shared/images/forums/project15k/stealth_exhaust/0804.JPG

By adding the PERRIN Exhaust System you will not only gain performance but you also get the added pleasure of listening to the boxer engine as you run around town. The results can be felt and heard the second you take off from your house. For more information click here (http://www.perrinperformance.com/products/list?category=6&model=18).

Needed tools:
1) Jack and Jack stand
2) Socket or wrench
3) WD-40 or other lubricant to use on the hangers

Step 1) Raise the vehicle to a desired height allowing for enough room to move freely. For this you will want to use jack stands to support the vehicle while working on the exhaust. NEVER WORK ON A VEHICLE SUPPORTED ONLY BY A JACK.

Step 2)Time to remove the stock exhaust from the car. To do this I used a lubricant on the hangers helping to make things go quicker. Once the hangers were loosened I decided to remove the exhaust from all of the hangers except for the one on the drivers side rear muffler. This way I could remove the OEM spring bolts from the down pipe and not have the exhaust fall on my head (very important not to hurt yourself).

http://www.perrinperformance.com/shared/images/forums/project15k/stealth_exhaust/0807.JPG

http://www.perrinperformance.com/shared/images/forums/project15k/stealth_exhaust/0809.JPG

Once the sprig bolts and springs are removed from the down pipe carefully lower the stock exhaust system to the floor. You can now go back and remove the system from the last hanger. I recommend re-lubricating the hangers one more time before you install the PERRIN exhaust.

http://www.perrinperformance.com/shared/images/forums/project15k/stealth_exhaust/0810.JPG

Step 3) Time to install the PERRIN exhaust, there are two way to go about doing this. The first is to install the front section to the down pipe (if stock down pipe is being used, use the OEM spring bolts and springs to secure the system to the down pipe. If the PERRIN Down Pipe is being installed at the same time use the provided springs and bolts from PERRIN). Once the front section is in place you can then install the rear muffler section.

The second way to install the exhaust system (what I did) is to completely assemble the PERRIN system. To do this you will want to install the front section and rear muffler section on your garage floor. Using the included 3” Gasket and the bolts and washers connect the two pieces and tighten to 25ft-lbs of torque. Once everything is in place secure the muffler to one of exhaust hangers and then connect the front section of the PERRIN exhaust to the factory down pipe with the OEM spring bolts and springs. For this I recommend slightly tightening them up allowing you to go back and connect the exhaust to the rest of the hangers.

With the exhaust now suspended from the hangers you can go back and fully tighten the front section to the down pipe.

Step 4) Lower the car back to earth and give her a test. Be sure to check for leaks prior to driving the vehicle. (DO NOT START THE CAR IN AN ENCLOSED AREA AS DEATH CAN RESULT FROM CARBON MONOZIDE POISONING)

Its nice to see another Blaze Yellow out there. I have to say that the improvement from the crank pulley is felt the second you get on the gas.

The PERRIN Crank Pulley is 4-pounds lighter than the stock crank pulley. This reduction is equal to removing more than 100 lbs of vehicle weight.

Thanks for the question

This has got to be the sexiest exhaust I have ever seen. This thing would fit perfectly for the theme I am going for on my bugeye. You guys planning on stealthing the dual tip too?

Are video clips going up soon? Preferably of the street version (and cats are even better), I love the way this exhausts looks and the tone is incredible, but I don't particularly want the massive volume ;)

Edit:
Found one of your clips on youtube. Is that street or sport? Mic was a bit muffled, know what dB it goes to?

We can do ANY of the systems in Stealth coating. We released the singles first, but KEN is happy to help on that request. Might take 7 days to get it done. No big deal.

That is the sport stealth with cats. Sounds AWESOME! I have ridden in the car several times after selling the car to Ken and I must say it is a great addition to the car!

Let Ken or I know how we can help further!

The new PERRIN Stealth Exhaust system is made with a thermal powder coating process, we created an entire new look for the system. And as you can see from the pics its definitely cool looking.

If you don't want to draw attention to what would have been a bright and shiny exhaust system, then this if for you. The thermal coating not only locks heat in the system to increase exhaust scavenging and flow, it also prevents excessive heat build up under the tunnel of the car. SOUND CLIP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53aB3cKXi9E&eurl=http://www.perrinperformance.com/products/show/417/Cat-Back-STEALTH-SPORT-System?category=6&model=18)

Best of all this system prevents unwanted attention from your local law enforcement as well!

If there are any question on the system or how to install it please let me know.

Best,
Ken

I know its not what most people would ask, but what is the loudest exhaust that Perrin sells that could be stealth coated? I love Perrin products, but I want the best of both worlds.

Awesome project, very inspiring. Keep up the good work boys!

Thanks for asking!

Just got word that Project 15K had a bit of a spill this morning in the snow! Apparently the ultra sticky tires aren't the best match for 31 deg and 1 inch of snow. So the Project is either on TEMP hold or PERMANENT hold pending and investigation of the damage. Stay tuned!

On the Exhaust. The Sport-Tone would be the loudest option available. And everyone has their own tastes so no problem!

Let me know if you would like one quoted for you!

Thank you! These have been really popular with the California owners due to the stringent exhaust laws down there, this has allowed a literally "stealthy" installation and use!

It does NOT taper at all. 3" all the way!

Street is about 25% quieter.

Hope that helps! Keep me posted!

I have an 07 wrx wagon with a stage 2 street tune. Currently I have an Invidia catted DP and an SPT/Borsal cat back. It is kinda quiet not that I want really loud but I want more boxer grumble. I love the steath setups that you have. Will either one give me more power than the SPT exhaust it's alllegedly 3'' no resonator and a kinda large muffler not as big as stock muffler though .

Hey guys,

The coating is VERY durable. BUT, we did have a handful that had a poor coating and it wasn't discovered until it was in clients hands. If you have one of them, PLEASE let us know so we can get it repaired for you.

All of the current inventory is 100% good to go and will not have the aforementioned issue.

which exhaust would you suggest? I am using an invidia catted dp. will the sport be too loud or will the cat mellow it out enough? I live in NY and they are not too strict on loud but I don't want to annoy the neighbors or drone myself out on the highway the wife will kill me lol. I saw the video with the maroon sedan and that sounds great. I think you mentioned that is the sport with a cat. I could be mistaken.

The sport should be just fine if you have at least one cat. If you are running cat-less I would suggest adding a cat (lets think performance and green;) ) and then the sport system.

hope that helps!

just wanted to thank Adam and the crew at Perrin. I recieved my Stealth Sport back exhaust today and just had to bolt it up as soon as it came. Not only does it have the nice boxer growl I was looking for but it is much lighter also then the SPT cbe I had on there. Thanks again for putting up with my questions and being honest. You helped me make the right choice. One last question that v-band you use for the midpipe to axle back makes a good enough seal? I was suprised that there was no gasket that goes in there or am I missing a gasket?

Danny,

Glad you got the part and that you are enjoying it!

There is not gasket needed and that will make a TIGHT seal at the v-band joint.

If you have ANY questions, PLEASE let us know!

I have decided that i want to go with the stealth and do a full turbo back install. Does perrin have a kit with the stealth? I saw a kit on the webpage but it was not the stealth.

Thanks for asking! The cat-back is available in stealth, but the DP options are all in polished. the only visible sections are black.

Hope that helps. If you need pricing or anything PLEASE just let me know! Always happy to help!

Just felt the need to praise Perrin here.

I had/have the Perrin Stealth on my car but after 5K miles/5-6 months --- the Perrin Stealth coating started peeling and I was left with a cheetah coating. I contacted Perrin with pictures and they sent me a shipping label to send it back to have the defective coating sandblasted off and re-coated. Couldn't be happier with Perrin - Especially as this is one of the best sounding exhausts I have ever heard!!!! A+ for Perrin! Thanks again. (Cant wait to get it back)

"Stuff" happens ... and I am not in the least bit upset about it. The attention I received from everyone I dealt with at Perrin was honest, courteous, fast, and genuine. I would HIGHLY recommend this exhaust (stealth or not) - and HIGHLY recommend Perrin as a company I plan on doing business with in the future. Thank You for all the excellent customer service!
