I would recommend stripping the wax and starting all over twice a year -- once during the spring, once during the fall. Depending on what wax you use, you need to reapply as often as your wax lasts. Once a month is a starting point, but if you really enjoy it, more often. :p

Only use swirl removers if you have some serious swirls. Otherwise, products like Zaino's Z-5 will fill in light swirls without removing any clearcoat or paint.
