I just picked up a beautifully put together '03 WRX with a 2.0 and what I thought was a stock 5 speed. After getting it tuned, a friend of mine who owned a stock 02 with 5 speed, told me that I was shifting at slower speeds than he was comparing redline shift points. So I did some research, and used some speed/gear ratio calculators to see what was going on. Just comparing findings to what I run, the shifts are much sooner, so I am assuming that there is some gear work done.
What I am asking is this. What are you shifting at in your stock 5-speed? Do you recognize this shift pattern? I know there are a few variables to take into consideration, but what I can tell you is that I am runnin 215/50-17s.
Stock gear ratio:
3.454 (1st)
1.947 (2nd)
1.366 (3rd)
0.972 (4th)
0.738 (5th)
3.9:1 Final Drive (<---- this took me a little while to find, can anyone confirm, i believe its correct)
Speed I am reading at redline shifts
1-2 = 40mph
2-3 = 60mph
3-4 = 80mph (little under actually, like 78, 79ish)
Here are the figures from the speed calculator. Now i know that it isn't going to be 100% correct, but it should be close. When I did transmission work on my previous car, I used the speed calculators and compared after modifying the final drive in that transmission, and they were accurate to 2-3mph all across the board. This shows i should be close to 100mph when going from 3 to 4, and its way lower.

Any help would be great, thanks!!
