View Full Version : turn signal bulbs so dim and ugly!!
Rohrex 02-05-2008, 04:00 PM i cleared my headlights long time ago, and i've been using that regular stock white bulbs since then. Now I installed new chromed amber 7440 and the color is really ugly and dim. I ordered these bulbs on www.Autolumination.com (http://www.Autolumination.com)
Let me know if you guys know any brighter chrome amber bulbs!! Thnks
Knightmare69 02-05-2008, 05:10 PM You need to get the partial chromed bulb, not the fully chromed ones. I've tried those before and it's dim because there's too much coating on it. Try the partial coated ones, or the PIAA ones at autobarn or get one Sylvannia blueish amber ones from Autozone.
Steel06STI 02-05-2008, 05:56 PM I actually made my own by using amber bulbs and taping half of the bulb off and using bright silver paint to paint just the tops. they look and work great!
the sylvania ones look like hell imo.
Knightmare69 02-05-2008, 06:22 PM Yes, you can DIY also, get a piece of Styrofoam and "plug" the bulbs in, get some silver paint and spray a LIGHT coat on the bulb.
Rohrex 02-05-2008, 07:05 PM That's a really good idea thx
Spore 02-05-2008, 07:40 PM I heard Sylvania Silverstar turn bulbs (aka Osram Diadem) are also a nice choice. But its blue-ish when unlit (comapred to chrome silver).
axelthrasher 02-05-2008, 07:45 PM Go with LEDs.
Spore 02-05-2008, 08:04 PM Go with LEDs.
but don't you get the "hyper blink" because of the lack of resistance?
axelthrasher 02-05-2008, 08:17 PM Add resistors - they sell **** for that.
Big-E 02-05-2008, 11:41 PM Add resistors - they sell **** for that.
No, don't buy resistors.
You can get an electronic flasher that replaces the stock flasher that is right under the dash, near the steering column. It's a 1 minute plug and play. Unplug the harness plug, install new electronic relay, and tuck back up under dash. That's it.
Don't waste your time on installing 4 resistors; and the resistors get super hot when you do use your turn signals, which, if installed improperly, could cause a fire.
Knightmare69 02-06-2008, 12:22 AM ^^Correct, I have the relay replacement from www.autolumination.com and I run LED rear turn signals and halogen front turn signals with no hyperblink.
JuggernautTCW 02-06-2008, 12:32 PM I thought LED turn signals are a lot darker than stock.... is it safe in daylight?

Knightmare69 02-06-2008, 01:52 PM Depends on the bulb design and the reflector design, the ones I have work fine in the day time.
halfight2003 02-06-2008, 02:41 PM yeah Knightmare69 is correct it really depends on the LED bulb design & reflector design. I've changed all of my bulbs to LEDs from www.vleds.com and they offer wide range of bulbs designs and brightness. Also Big-E is correct to use an electronic flasher coz its waaaay easier to install and safer than installing resistors (EL flasher produces the clicking sounds too like the original flasher) and if you want to know more check this link

Cheers!:)
XanRules 02-06-2008, 08:29 PM Also, Philips makes some bulbs called Bluevision (I saw this on rs25, they're a UK bulb, but they probably have a US equivalent) that apparently matches everything nicely.
jdubya301 02-07-2008, 08:28 PM sylvania silver star turn signals. they are cheap, legal, colored pretty nicely, and light up VERY bright!
