When I go above 60mph, the steering wheel sometimes shakes. Not real bad, but annoying. My car still goes straight, so I thought the wheels needed balancing. I got them balanced and rotated, but it still does it a little bit. What else can be wrong?

Another thing that you might try, and you might think this is silly, but it works.
Climb under your car, and run your hand around the entire inner portion of your wheels. Or do it from the outside of each wheel by reaching throught the spokes.
If there is a little bit of mud caked in any of the areas of your wheels, it will give you a shake in your steering wheel.
Clean them all out nicely and see if that helps.

Do you remember hitting any potholes lately? It’s possible that you might have bent a rim. This will give you a vibration at speed. This scenario would be more likely with a large wheel/low profile tire set up.

Steering wheel shake can also be caused by bent wheels and flat spotted tires. Try swapping the fronts and rears and see if it goes away.

i got them rotated with the balancing, still a little shake, i'll try for a wheel alignment...know what's a good price?

I'm guessing it could still be the balancing. My '99 RS was smooth as silk all 35,000 miles on the RE92s. I just got a set of Kumhos and the car has been exactly like yours ever since. Never had an alignment, but getting new tires shouldn't warrent a new alignment, right? I'm thinking that they did a $hitty balancing job.

I'm having the same problem with my RS, but I think its because of the lack of a wheel weight on the front driver sidehttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif I guess it fell off, but I hit some big potholes with my rs also..so i HOPe its the wheel balancing.

It could also be that your wheels are not torqued down to the same pressure.

I had a problem similar to this on my integra.

Had my alignment checked (it needed it anyway), still did it.
Had my tires rotated, still did it.
So i took them back to the tire shop i got them from, and just had them rotated the day before, and asked for the tires to be inspected. Turns out the tire i had was improperly manufactured, and there was a lump of rubber on the inside wall of the tire. And while the rotating would counter this. The hard spot in the tire was VERY noticable at speed.

Might be somthing to have looked at as well.

got the same problem... just had my rims powdercoated and put back on- suspecting shaety balancing as the culprit- all though one of my rims had a mild curbing incident about a month before the coating... let me know how things go with you and I'll pass along anything I pick up ok?

Well, I curbed the rear wheel a couple of weeks ago(just not paying attention), but would the rear be able to cause the steering wheel to shake? And for some reason, it really only happens in the morning, and only aournd 60mph, higher or lower than that and nothing, really odd. I would get it aligned if I knew that was the problem, but since it's on and off like this, I don't know

I was driving muddy/snowy roads at speed and collected some mud on the inside walls of my wheels. On the freeway it would shake and get worse as I got faster (70+).
