Now that I'm in charge of Project $15K, Lets Get Rockin'!

Lets Start with the Rear Sway Bar. When we picked up Project $15k from the last owner it already had a Brand-X 22mm Rear Sway bar with three holes of adjustability. PERRIN Performance does make a bar of this size but for the sake of the BUDGET I will keep the bar. Keeping the bar did not mean there was no work to be done...........

One, the OEM endlinks where having a hard time with this larger than stock bar, notice the rubber bushing being pulled/pushed out! And it's just flexy plastic.

Two, the OEM bar mounts are a little weak for a bar this large so we replaced both. When doing this we found the sway bar bushings to be a "little" worn (or VERY worn  see the cracks!) So we replaced those also.

Comparing the old Vs. New bushings (guess what one is the new one)

On a car with about 110k miles you have to use a little penetrating lube from time to time.

New PERRIN endlinks installed. (See, they do work with other brands of aftermarket swaybars! any one that says otherwise is full of POO )

With the larger rear bar installed to help reduce under-steer, I felt I needed to do something with the front. I'm sticking with the OEM front bar but added the stiffer PERRIN endlinks and have the Energy Suspension OEM style bushings on order.

OEM endlink. NOTICE THE SHINNY NEW CONTROL ARM (THANKS KEN!)

any reason you put the front endlinks on - the stock fronts on sedans are as good or better than alot of aftermarket links? Not being negative - I have really enjoyed this project and will continue to watch put in the less than 15k budget setup replacing parts that don't need to be replaced doesn't really make sense

You might be somewhat right when using the stock front sway bar but it DOES flex some. My reasoning is i wanted some bling  and my goal is to "freshen" up ALL suspension mounting pionts as it is "cheeper" than adding power. But dont worry, power is on the way ;)

ok I was just curious - I have been using stock links with 22mm solid bar with no issues - but nothing wrong with freshening I suppose. I look forward to the rest of the build

Brand-X bar = cusco ;)

And it you really want to spice things up, set it on the 3rd hole for more stiffness.

Just out of interest, the front drop links for the bugeye are the more like the OE ones that are like joints can your solid ones just replace these or am i all wrong?

I'm looking into going all Perrin instead of whiteline on front and rear (already whitelined up!)

Thanks
RR

Hello Rice Devil,

Yes the front drop links are just a bolt in item, remove OEM units and install PERRIN units. I'm happy to here you are going to use PERRIN parts, let me know if I can help you with that ;)

not to be off topic, but those pics are a great example of the difference between a Sway bar swap done in the immaculately clean garage of a TV car show VS the real nitty-gritty of actually doing it. great shots, very informative stuff
