View Full Version : >>merged<<speed channel/NASCAR channel & it's gonna B ok
Rattler 02-12-2002, 12:10 AM Well, much to my relief tonight I caught a commercial on the new Speed Channel that I wanted to see. It was an ad for their coverage of WRC for the year. THey really talked it up too. I liked it when they said some names and said "Never heard of them? You will." I think thats how it went at least. I looked at the local TV guide Sunday when I got the paper. I was scared when all I saw was Daytona Preview listings for the most part. I am telling you, it was a huge relief to hear them bragging up their WRC coverage! As a matter of fact, they played the Sweden show again right after the commercial. They played it last night too.
2.5coupe 02-12-2002, 03:13 AM is anyone else annoyed with the new Speed Channel, i know it just started but i've seen more nascar on there then when i lived in Daytona.
wrxinfx 02-12-2002, 03:49 AM 5-8pm Nascar.
And they don't even have www.speedchannel.com :monkey:
They've got the F1 contract for the US right? Hope so.
conernr 02-12-2002, 07:25 AM Great to hear that I was worry too. But we well see how much other racing is covered.
SubEd 02-12-2002, 08:05 AM I'm happy with the changes, and hate NASCRAP as much as anyone. Come on, 4 hours of WRC, continued motorcycle coverage, no more lawnmower racing!
I can easily turn the channel when NASCAR comes on.
Ed
jlyttle 02-12-2002, 09:19 AM Yeah, but they are so desperate to put on anything NASCAR, that prime time viewing hours have things like "The Pit Stop World Championship". Ughhhh.

hey, lawnmower racing is cool.
Snowphun 02-12-2002, 09:56 AM Change the channel, save it for the F1 and expanded WRC coverage. It's not like they didn't show lots of junk before, now it's on at primetime.

LordBass 02-12-2002, 11:01 AM NASCRAP is gonna be the way of life in the US for a while.. Can't escape it.
We've covered this more than at-length on the board already..
I just hope they don't NASCRAP-ize the F1 commentary.. As long as Sam Posey is still in the mix I'll be happy. :)
I'm learning to live with the reality of "Speed Channel".. So long, Speedvision!!

Gozzi 02-12-2002, 11:03 AM This is the old Speedvision, right? My cable company decided to give me Court TV instead of Speedvision. Now if I want to get it I have to buy into digital at $30 MORE per month. Dish time! But the real question is does Speedvision/Speed Channel have rights from Bernie to broadcast live F-1 races this year??
LordBass 02-12-2002, 12:01 PM They're touting F1 coverage, too.. With our luck we'll have that nappy WRC coverage annoucer, Brian Fox, and Jason Priesty doing commentary. :)
"Wow, Ralfy just pulled a crispy bling-bling move on Montoya!!"
Hehe.

ugh... too much nascar. It's not like I need 3 hours to introduce nascar or something.
But on the other hand, the paid infomercials seem to be restricted to early morning, and to only a half hour...
I'll gladly watch more nascar crap over that stupid bow-flex commercial
cbrady 02-12-2002, 01:54 PM I just have one word to say: Tivo
Once you have it, you never watch TV in real time. I could care less about what Speedvision/channel has one at night. It used to be hours of infomercials. Me, when i sit down to watch TV, I pick from the 4 hours of WRC coverage, maybe mixed with highlights from the Daytona 24h, sprinkled with a dash of British Touring car crash fests. So there's more Nascar, which I could care less. This year they expanded WRC coverage, picked up CART and the entire Grand-am season, plus the old F1 and AMLS races. Our kind of racing has expanded.
Free yourself from the tyranny of network programming execs. Buy a Tivo (I've seen them for only $100) and make it your TV

Snowphun 02-12-2002, 02:14 PM Cris - Maybe it's time to get a Tivo. Where have you seen them so cheap?
Thanks,
Paul

click the Specials and Promotions link. In fact, they have one for new satellite customers for $50. I have the Phillips one. I spent $400 for mine a year ago, and now its $99 and I don't regret it one minute. It was worth the $400 then, and at $99 its a bargain.
I remember BestBuy also selling them for around 100 bucks.

Cigar2 02-12-2002, 07:24 PM ...But I need a little help getting into the new Speed Channel website. And I knew this might happen since they are now apart of Fox.
And my internet provider is webtv now MSNTV only has Netscape 4 in it. And that's the problem I'm having. Everytime I've tried logging on to the speedtv.com site.
They say I need to upgrade to something above Net 4. So in asking in around about way which I do when I'm tired.
Can someone either email me or post in a reply. A link that is past the front page for me so I can see if I can get around the problem I'm having right now.
Thank's for the help. God I hope this makes some sense.
Clement 02-12-2002, 07:48 PM Their new URL is http://www.speedtv.com
I don't like the new program schedule design, the old table format on the old SpeedVision website was much easier to browse.
hotrod 02-12-2002, 08:23 PM send them an email
webmaster@www.speedtv.com
Tell them you don't appreciate being told what browser you should run.
If they are not smart enough to make a web site compatable with basic HTML browsers they don't deserve your business.

Midwayman 02-12-2002, 08:31 PM I second Tivo... The most incredible gadget I have ever bought. It will change how you watch tv. Lets you grab all the cool off hours shows and watch them when you get home from work. Paid $250 for mine a year ago. More than worth it. Plus you can hack your tivo to have more recording time. Mine was a 20hr unit, now its a 60hr, all for a $80 hard drive.

The only one that's $100 is the Philips
DSR 6000, which is also a DirecTV reciever. Wonder if I can ignore the DirecTV part, or if the menu's are really intertwined?
I'll check out BB too.

Midwayman 02-13-2002, 05:37 PM The direct tv one does not include a encoder so you cannot use it for cable tv. Its compression and quality is better when used with a direct TV signal than the standard tivo though. Great deal if you use direct TV.
