So heres the break down, car is an 04 wrx, has 60k miles.

I was driving the other night, signaled my left blinker, and when the switch popped back up after completing my left hand turn, the headlights turned on and off, the brights came on and off, all my lights activated by that switch starting acting up, and i could hear the relay underneath the glove box going on and off.

Now its a constant problem, I cant even use my blinkers any more without all the lights controlled by that switch freaking the hell out, or even bump the switch.

All i can think is that its the headlight switch itself.

I'm guessing i can order this through subaru dealerships....

anyone else here having this problem.

Sounds like a bad combination switch, not that uncommon.

bad combo switch sounds right.

either needs replacement, or i wonder if it would be possible to spray some tuner cleaner in there?

To the other people experiencing this problem, have you had your tranny's worked on prior to this happening?

no transmission work done. it just started happening one night. it seems to kind of come and go. i went for about a week without it happening and then it started doing it again the other day. if it is a combination switch as has been suggested, could anyone tell me how much that would cost to have fixed?

30-40 dollars, a half an hour, and a screwdriver...?

new switch is 53.83 from subarugenuineparts.com.

but you can probaly get one from a wrecked car for 10 bucks.

i am assuming that the install is the same as the wiper switch, which is extremely easy to do.

Ok I just cleaned my combo switch and it's still doing it. I'm guessing I need to replace it but before I do, how can I tell if it's actually "bad" other than the light flicker? Can you look at the actual piece and look for something going wrong? Also, what should be the correct up-down combination for the contact points? I just want to be SURE it's my combo switch and not some funky wiring issue (which could very much be the cause in my certain case[hasn't been the same since my accident]).

My sequence is really...REALLY odd. I'm running morettes btw.

A)Cold start, low beams switched to on, fog light switched to on. lows and fogs
B)If I turn it off car off then on again, with low beams switched to on and fogs on, I ONLY get the low beams on until the car is turned off for a while.
C)low beam switch on with no fogs, I get high beams as well.
D) at any time I flash to high beams or put them on with a switch, all the lights shut off.

note: parking lights are not effected by any of this. Edit: I also want to add that my high beam indicator is dim when my lights are on. It changes luminosity depending on the sequence, I can find out if anyone wants to know.

Also, I want to say that sometimes my high beams try to go off but they don't, like theres a small surge of power. I am running a harness to draw power from the battery but it is wired correctly so let's just assume thats not an issue for now. I have also plugged in stock 9007's to the stock harness and I'm getting the same results so I know it's not my aftermarket setup. Does anyone have ANY idea what the heck is going on? You have no idea how frustrating this is!
