Is the Borla that bad? the reason Im asking is I will finally have the spare cash to get a header next week and they are out of the knock offs on ebay, last time it took a month to get them back on there. I really want to order a header next week but if they arent back on Ebay Im gonna just get the Borla itself. Are the new ones still prone to cracking or is that just the first design ones?

Amusingly, the knockoffs have a much lower failure rate than the originals. Go with eBay.

Ebay headers are cheaper so just wait until they come back. Or you can get the equal lenght headers that are also available on ebay, but will cost you about the same as the "Original Borla". Its a 2 piece header so its better vs. a 1 piece header that later you have to buy a HFC for it if you want more power.

Im not really going for all out power in this car in fact all I really want is the rumble thats why I want UEL. but if the ebay ones arent back up by next weekend Im gonna just go with the origional Borla. I just really dont want to have to wait around for another month for ebay to get them back up.

The newer Borlas are not as prone to cracking as the first generation so it should be fine.

Forester_007, the OBX header comes with a cat-delete pipe not a HFC.

The replica headers are cheaper and alot claim of never having a problem with them. The only problem with the real borla's were problems with the gen 1&2 design cracking. most of the places that sell them now are selling the latest gen 4 which is much much better. I got my borlas from renick motorsports.com. I know a guy locally here that has had real borlas for 4 years dialy driven and no problems cracking at all.

For the rumble they have to be UEL!

yeah I actually deal with Summitracing alot for my other car and since they carry the Borlas for the Impreza I think thats the route Im gonna go if they dont show up on ebay first.

You said that the Borla headers is a 1-piece header and the OBX is a 2-piece header. Then you said the OBX is better because it's a 2-piece header vs the Borla (1-piece header) since you have to buy a cat later down the road for it (it being the Borla header).

But you do have to buy a cat for both headers. That pipe that comes with the OBX is a cat-delete pipe with a resonator. So you would have to weld in a cat in that resonator's place or put in another pipe of your choice.

I just put on my EBAY knock of headers the 1 piece and they are awesome. It makes the engine sound mean. If you want to hear what it sounds like go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS8kKRTKirk
and thats what they sound like. The HP gains is awesome. I build boost so much faster now it not even funny. When i took it to the track i ran .4 seconds faster.

Still learning a lot about the 2.5i. Is the UEL swap a relatively easy mod, or is it more of a difficult one? Also, what kind of pricing am I going to be looking at here? Thus far, I have swapped out the stock axelback with an 07 WRX axelback - simply for the looks. A CBE or ABE upgrade is in the cards for the near future....but I want the boxer sound to come to life the best it can. Thanks for the help guys.

I honestly would be patient and wait until the knockoffs come back to ebay.it is worth it not to have hot pants.. I have had mine for several years with no problems.. there are a few vendors.. shouldn't take too long..

Ill give it another week or so I just hope it dont take a whole lot longer.

The 2.5i can be done and there is actually a thread describing everything you will need, just search for 2.5i header and Im sure youll find it.

I should have mentioned.. you can email the people and ask when they will have them back in stock.. I got mine from A2R inc.. I noticed since i got mine.. the guy has a nasioc name.. addicted to racing and is a vendor.. either PM him on here.. or fid A2R inc on ebay.. I did this and it made it easier to wait.. I knew it would be about 3 weeks..
