Any one have any idea what could cause this oil leak? cam seal I guess? This have been bugging me for a while. The car still runs fine no problem.
I got CP100mm and it was 120psi all around from the last compression test result. (not sure is that normal)

And I also wondering why my engine making noise so bad. it sound like something hitting the cover. timing belt?? http://s120.photobucket.com/albums/o197/caballero_sti/?action=view&current=MOV04377.flv

that type of leak is typically related to a valve cover seal (possibly the spark plug holes) or the cam seals. I'm assuming you have already inspected the oil fittings on the top of the head?

That noise sounds intermittent from the video, and also sounds like something hitting plastic (again, just from what I can tell from the vid)
Take your timing belt covers off and inspect everything first maybe that will yield some answers.

Looks like the cam cover gasket is leaking as the little sleeve the bolts goes through is showing through the space where the gasket should be. Also usually where there is a oil leak the exact spot of the leak will be the cleanest as the fresh oil keeps washing that spot off. In the picture the cam seals are to the left (the clean area) and the leak is from the middle to the back area of the cover. I hope excessive crankcase pressure didn't blow the gasket out.

Thanks a lot for the info. It's only one side that need to change the cover gasket. Not sure if it was too tight from the last built and cause the leak...

On the STi valve cover gaskets the gasket contours on the INSIDE of the bolt holes, meaning you can see them through the gap as shown above, that doesn't mean the seal is ripped at that spot.

I just went back and looked at the leak. It doesn't look like there are any rubber washers under the bolts on top of the cover. Maybe the bolts are where it's leaking.

That's what I meant by my post above, they can't. The seal is on the INSIDE of where all the bolts go through, so if it's leaking it's from the valve cover seals or cam seals.

My first post was about the gasket. My second post was about the bolt seals. There are seals under each cam cover bolt. The bolt has a washer and a rubber seal on it on the OUTSIDE of the cover. In the pictures I don't see the rubber washers under the bolts on the OUTSIDE of the cam cover.

Again, he has an STi, NOT a wrx. There are NO bolt seals.

Clearly the O.P's heads do not use them.
What year/model STi engine? If you are talking about a JDM model etc, your point is moot.
I have yet to see a USDM STi, 2.5L WRX (06+) or Legacy GT (same heads) using those seals.

I have an USDM 04 STi. I didn't think the 05 was any different head wise. I can take pictures of them if you want. I just built my engine about two months ago.

Something's off... Did they have seals on them from the factory? Pictures may prove useful actually. There shouldn't be any bolt seals on your valve cover.
I know the ej205s and 207s have them (as well as other models, NA etc) but the USDM 04+ STis and models I listed in my post above should NOT have the seals or the extra spacing for the bolt seals in the cover.

Anyways, for the OP, sorry we went off topic, However I can see from your picture your valve covers definitely do NOT have the space or need for the bolt seals.

Kaos200 you are WRONG I know for a fact the 02 wrx and 04 sti has the rubber washers under the bolts in the cover. I am not even going to follow this bull any longer.
