Ive owned 3 previous Subarus before my current 08 STi. Each boxer engine from what I recall, had a light throttle (cruise, slight accel) knocking noise which goes away when I give it some moderate throttle.

So I plugged in my new AP with the live data to get some idea of dynamic advance and everything looks fairly normal. For instance, it generally jumps up to +5 and comes down to about +1 to +2 at redline.

While looking at DA under the light throttle/cruise and just after coming off the gas, it looks like DA goes down to -.5 to -.1 briefly before zeroing out again.

1) Is this engine noise normal for you all?
2) Is this a normal response from DA for full throttle?
3) Is this a normal response from DA for off throttle?

Thanks,
Chris

Anyone?

Can someone rev it up to 3k rpm, maintain RPM and give it just little bit more gas once your RPM stabillizes.

I too have pretty significant growl around 3k under light throttle in my 08 WRX. I've been trying to educate myself about what's going on with this and found your thread. I'll check my DA this evening and see what I find.

ps. my da is between 4-6 after 3k all the way to redline. 0 at idle (warm)

Yah my ride isn't affected by the stop sale/recall thing :)

The growl gets quieter when I uninstall the AP, and my DA never goes negative with the AP installed. I'm not knocking. Couple people have said that I might just be hearing the wastegate more when the car is tuned for more boost. Makes sense (?)
