Hi, I got my ~04 ish coil packs and it doesn't even look like you can mod them to fit into my early legacy cam covers. The hole in the legacy cam cover is too small to fit the little protrusion sticking in from the mounting face of the coil pack (make sense?). Anyway, Can somebody confirm interchangability between newer cam covers and old ones? Will ~02 covers fit? Do I have to find newer ej20g covers? Whats a good price? Can't think of any more questions? Thanks

Mike

It can be done. BoostAddictPL sent me a write up of how he did it with some REALLY good pictures, but they disappeared. He never added the details to the my conversion post.

So I decided to try out what you suggested and try to "mod-up" one of my burned-out USDM WRX ignition coils and try to make it fit in my old-school EJ20G valve cover.

Well, it seemed to work. I had to saw-off the copper bolt guide as well as dremel-off the edges on the square part of the USDM WRX coils.

Hi Rob
Yah, the pictures would be nice. It LOOKS like if you removed the material necessary you would be exposing the internals of the coil and would have to reseal it. This is NOT something I'd want to risk, The last thing I want is moisture/corrosion in there, especially since in my beetle the coil packs are right behind the back tires. Also no need to saw off the copper guide since its pressed in and a 7mm socket and hammer will tap it out with minimal force.

I'll do some more checking and if I figure out a way to make it work I'll definitely add to your sticky.

Any word on cam cover compatibility?

Mike

Nobody knows if the cam covers are interchangable between all years of EJ20? Should I ask this in the conversion forum? Thanks
