What is the recommended maximum RPM limit on a stock EJ257 short block?

** Not the head limitations, just the shortblock, I'm doing a hybrid.**

Thanks!

iirc, heads are the first limiting factor on the 257 longblock. What heads are you using?

However, shortly after that you'll have some oiling issues.

Besides that, if you're running a turbo big enough to warrant a rev limit above 7000, that stock block will be on thin ice as is.

I will be using ver 4 STi heads, that are supposed to good for about 8200 rpm. I'll probably never shift over 6500... BUT it's an offroad & sand car so we occassionaly peg the redline due to wheel spin, long hill climbs in the sand, etc. I helped spin a bearing on an my old 2.0 on a steep hill climb where I couldn't shift and accidentally over-rev'd.

I'm considering putting some kind of rev limiter in place this time to help protect the new engine, so it would be nice to pick the redline based on the actual limitations of the stock sti shortblock.

Do you shift when the passenger says o boy, or do you say o boy?

I've seen an 07 sti spin up to 8200 ( accidentally set FFS too high and it turns out it over-rides the rev limiter ) and its all stock. So I know it can do it at least once :-)
