View Full Version : Just wanted to share... GT30R 04STi
So...
Buddy of mine has an 03 Evo 8 with Cams, Evo 9 Turbo, Full exhaust stuff, ETS 3.5 inch intercooler, and already had it tuned just wanted to get it on the dyno and see what it put out.
While I have:
Perrin 30R kit w/ a 3076 Turbo with a .82 A/R hotside
APS DR525 FMIC
Grimspeed TGV Deletes
PE 850cc Injectors
Greddy SP2 Catback
UTEC Engine Management
Perrin Header
Phenolic Manifold Spacers 8mm (...woohoo...)
Halman MBC
Anyways, go to PRE up here and throw the Evo on the dyno first.
Buddy scores a 345WHP on their Dyno Dynamics Dyno. Reads a little lower than a Dynojet, so we were like, not bad... but my 30R is gonna beat that shiz like a redheaded stepchild~!
Throw the ole STi on that bad boy and... 330whp... WTF?!
Try everything we can think of, replace the front O2 sensor, but for some reason it just doesn't wanna' take more timing without knock.
So I goes home and take out the spark plugs and check the compression:
Number 1 - 143
Number 2 - 141
Number 3 - 142
Number 4 - 90... omfg...
So yeah, now weese gonna slap in some CP forged pistons and then see what she'll do!
But yeah, damn it sucks... :sadbanana:
sux,, how long you been running the 30r?
who tuned it.. what kind of boost
wrxkid85 04-05-2008, 01:54 AM Haha, oh man thats got to be like a kick in the nutz.
Keep us updated on the new numbers once you get in on the dyno again
Pretty much just got the 30R on there, been on there less than a month, I've been tuning it myself at right around 20lbs of boost.
I'll be sure to post the new numbers as soon as I get it up and running!
I'd really like to get back on the Horsepowerfreaks dyno too, but it's not open to the public any more, be nice to see a comparison to the dyno dynamics and the dynojet!
Nick
PS- Good news is I almost had more WHP than the evo w/ one cylinder tied behind my back, ;)
APS04silverwrx 04-05-2008, 08:13 AM uh not to be rude, but hpfreaks is why you car probably blew. They no jack ***** about our cars!

 I nearly spit coffee all over my computer. I can't wait to see this thing kick the pants off of that Evo with the new slugs!!
smokey07 04-05-2008, 11:31 AM you couldnt tell at all that your car was making 50whp less than it should be?? that definately sucks, i pray every night that my motor is healthy the next morning.. gl w/ the pistons, im sure your buddy was talking maaaad shyt, but you were right, your car made as much as his with 3 cylinders  ....
cellgeek101 04-05-2008, 12:02 PM 3 cylinders FTW!!
Tony_Montana87 04-05-2008, 04:56 PM How do you do a compression test? im worried about my engine and pistons.
SedonaScooby 04-05-2008, 05:32 PM uh not to be rude, but hpfreaks is why you car probably blew. They no jack ***** about our cars!
I think he just wanted a dyno.....
but i'm TRYING to get hired on there, maybe I can up there subaru knowledge ahahahahahahahaha:D
How do you do a compression test? im worried about my engine and pistons.
do a search, it's all over the place, but basically the compression gauge screws in like a spark plug and cranking the engine will cause the gauge to display the pressure in each cylinder. you want the numbers to be within a few percent of each other. Like dynos, all gauges read differently, so don't be upset if it's 115 across the board or 140. Performing the test hot/warm/cold also affects the numbers, but the test should be done warm.
Ok, got her rebuilt with some CP Forged pistons, just a couple hundred miles of break in and she'll be ready for some more tuning!
Gotta give mad props to RedDevil for putting in the pistons, and my buddy's in the garage doin' most of the work ^_^
Nice to have dedicated friends, willing to help! :D
nice work, that was fast! did you just use some drop-in pistons?

Why are those Evos so easy to modify? That's great power for cheap.
dan240 04-07-2008, 05:00 PM Do you remember how much torque the EVO put down?
ScooobaSeth 04-08-2008, 12:45 AM a 30r isn't even in its efficiency range at 20psi. but the low cylinder compression is a big factor.
Driving the Evo is a blast! Freakin' thing pulls HARD all the way to redline once the power comes on, I'm sure my STi will pull harder once it's all set, but yeah. The evo is frickin' pretty sweet too! They're twinscroll so his car spools a good 400rpm or so before mine too.
slovak 04-08-2008, 02:35 PM I did a compression on my 07 and it was within the specs Suby gives you, 20K in less than a year and beating the crap out of it everytime I got a chance. Just keep on going and post your numbers once it is all set and done.
