I was at the dealership yesterday and heard that Subaru is supposed to be doing another guaranteed trade-in value similar to what they did when the 08's first came out. I was told that it would be beginning towards the end of April.

Is this true? What are the qualifications for the guaranteed trade-in value this time around?

It is comming soon. But I dont think there is a date set yet. There are no details yet on the program details. If I had to guess it will focus on the new Forester. But I doubt it will be like last year when it was for Impreza trades only. If you bought your car new you should get details in the mail and it will be on Subaru.com.

It will cover all Subaru vehicles 03 to 06 and will start on the 20th. The focus will be on the new Forester but it should cover everything (within mileage limits).

I got a letter from my local dealer offering "top dollar" for my 02. Now whether that was a dealer thing, or an official SOA thing I don't know. But every time I go down there they try to buy my 02 from me, and everytime I tell them the same damn thing..."You're out of your ***king mind!".

Why would you trade in a car you just bought?

That is a dealer thing. Not a SOA thing.
It is just marketing. Ignore it. =P

Just so you know, this GTP thing will be mailed from SoA. Not from your dealership. Anything sent from dealerships are usually just gimmicks to bring in traffic..... I mean seriously, do you think that springing a $100 coupon (that they mailed out) on them will really change things up?? It's just a numbers game.... but the coupon brought you in didn't it!!??

I've gotten two of these in the past for my 04, and I was waaaay over the mileage limits (like by 20k+ miles) both times. The mileage limits are something like 15k miles a year, so if you drive more than that- you're out of luck on the "guaranteed" value.

I'm a sucker for coupons, given they are usually the supermarket type...

My WRX has 119,000 miles on it so far. I'm pretty sure whatever money a dealer would offer at trade-in would make keeping it as a third car seem financially attractive.

This is the answer I got a couple months go:

YOUR ORIGINAL MAIL:

Hello. I am emailing to find out if Subaru will be holding another
'Guaranteed Trade-In Value' promotion for 2008. I currently own a 2002
Impreza RS with 82,000 miles in great condition. I'm looking to purchase a
2008 Model WRX between now and February and wanted to know if can hold
off a little bit longer to get this great promotion that I've seen over
the past years. I've recently stopped by Sierra Subaru in Monrovia
California and Casa De Subaru of Sherman Oaks, California and salesman at
both dealers weren't sure about any upcoming promotions.
Thank you very much for your time and service with this question.

Dear Ellsworth:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your continued
interest in Subaru products. I wish that I could reply with concrete
information Ellsworth; but, I cannot. So, I will do my best to help you with
this decision without concrete information from Subaru of America.

The most recent Guaranteed Trade-in Program was to introduce the
redesigned 2008 Impreza and WRX models. With that recent program, offers and
guaranteed trade-in values were only provided to 2002-2006 Impreza
owners and vehicles. Because of the design of this most recent Guaranteed
Trade-in Program, I would find it unlikely that we would have another
one in the near future (most likely not at all next year) for our
current Impreza owners.

Now, we do not release information on future programs until that
program is active. So, I cannot state any of the above definitively. If you
asked me my opinion, it is that I feel that the information above will
be true.

Sorry that I could not be of more assistance with this request for
information. I do wish you all the best in 2008 Ellsworth!

Sincerely,

John J. Mergen
