....I thought it was very predictable that the thread would eventually include Toyota and Honda owners who were having
similar experiences. (weird tranny noises, dealers claiming driver abuse and refusing to do warranty work).

I have a friend who owned the supercharged mr2 from a few years back.

He had so many problems that he says he will never buy a supercharged or turbocharged vehicle again, and he thinks
i'm crazy for buying a 2 liter 4 with 227 hp, which based on
his experience with toyota, is sure to explode at any moment.

You know what sucks... even though my WRX has been problem free I'm a little worried that 2 or 3 years down the line MY02 is going to have such a bad rep. the re-sale value will tank.

I love my WRX but have to say that the tranny and/or clutch sucks! I have been dealing with the "deceleration issue" since I bought it. And the fact that Renick Subaru has done nothing to help but give me the run-around only makes things worse. I'm a first time Subaru owner and over all I like the car. But the service issue really is bad. Can't beat Honda in that department... not even close.

I have a 2000 Honda and a 2002 WRX. I'll take the Subura service over Honda anyday. It all depends on the dealer.

I agree that the decel issue is a drag. Subaru should prolly
suck it up and recall the bad clutch.

I just posted a (rather long!!) reply on the MR2 board.

I tried to be concise and nail all the points, but I'm not as technically up-to-par as some of you, so..... if any of my comments need saving, go right ahead and register. :D

There coould be some truth to what was said about the wrx. Subaru was expecting all kinds of teething problems on the car but didn't tell anyone about that.

Let me tell you of my experience with a Celica I bought in its first year. It was the AT200, 2 door coupe (when they wee still rallying and winning and before they were disqualified for using cheater engines to win).

The front axle bearings collapsed. Toyota wouldn't fix it under warranty because they said I drag raced the car. It was the only way that bearings would collapse like that. I fixed the car myself and did some research. It turned out that the original dimensions for the hub ID (to hold the bearing races) were incorrect and allowed the race itself to walk around in the hub leading to premature bearing failure. I got the document from within Toyota itself and proceeded to try and get a refund from Toyota for that repair.

They denied the existence of the document I showed them and said I must have fabricated the evidence...

I got rid of the car. Months later Toyota sends me a survey about how much I loved the car. I wrote them back and let them have it in no uncertain terms.

Further, I said, if their response contained nothing more than political double talk or how sorry they were that I felt the way I did or if it did not contain a positive response that would in some way change my view (like here's some money for the hassle we put your through or for the value of the repair)...the don't waste the damn ink....take me off any list they have....call every dealer that I've ever been to (and they know which dealer I've been to) and tell them to never ever call me again or I'll sue for harassment.

Well, they haven't called....their CART program is in the toilet, their F1 is hovering near the toilet, their IRL program hasn't started yet and already in the toilet...and I'm glad they're tasting what it's like to be on on the ass end of misery.

That car they're building for the import drags uses a truck engine and they're trying to use GTP logic in the ecu....big hp right from the go in a front drive drag car...they're running close to the edge of the bowl...and the guy making the design decisions has never been to or seen an import fwd drag race.

And if anyone wants to post this on that website...be my guest.

My name is Ted.
