I use a detailing spray as lube for the clay so I find it unnecessary to wash again. smurfwrx 04-17-2008, 10:36 AM I use detailing spray as the lube for the bar as well but I wash afterwards but a light wash. When I clay, I do something like this: 1. wash THOROUGHLY 2. clay 3. rinse and light wash 4. wax 5. wax 6. buff 7. obsess over the shine :D  I've been using my ultra-uber strong leaf blower to dry it lately. it helps. :) itskrees 04-17-2008, 10:43 AM when do you polish? Makes my baby glow in the dark. ;) TexSurfer 04-17-2008, 11:33 AM I've never washed again after claying. No point if the clay work was done right. Another idea is to clay as you wash. REXtard04 04-17-2008, 12:07 PM when do you polish? Polish should come after claying, and before waxing. Sorry for the noob question, but when you say "buff" do you mean taking the wax off? subaru3169 04-18-2008, 02:15 AM I've never washed again after claying. No point if the clay work was done right. pretty much.. i've only claybarred my car once in my her 7yr life and my car still shines pretty decently.. then again, i wash my car very well and it helps that i'm in southern california.. i normally tell locals that if they wash well enough, they don't really have to even claybar very often unless they park their car outside all the time What do you mean when you list Wax twice and then buff? Kean 04-18-2008, 12:32 PM pretty much.. i've only claybarred my car once in my her 7yr life and my car still shines pretty decently.. then again, i wash my car very well and it helps that i'm in southern california.. i normally tell locals that if they wash well enough, they don't really have to even claybar very often unless they park their car outside all the time I garage my vehicles, wash them weekly and use good, long lasting sealants to protect them from the elements. ......yet I still find enough contaminants on the surface of the finish to warrant the use of a bar at least once a year. The "key" is the ability to evaluate. Every situation will be different depending on several variables (i.e. products used, exposure to contaminants (whether parked or otherwise), maintenance, etc.). subaru3169 04-18-2008, 12:42 PM quite so.. each situation is unique.. mine may be especially strange since when i did claybar that one time, i saw the putty in my hands after i did every single panel and visibly there was no dirt.. nothing black whatsoever.. only gripe i have about my car, which may be lots of folks here, is that no matter when it is.. it may be a time when i haven't washed for a couple months or just freshly washed and waxed, the exterior of my car always attracts some sort of dust what i really need to learn is to wax wheels.. never seen a wheel wax before lol Kean 04-18-2008, 12:52 PM ......I feel your pain. Black is definitely a dust magnet. That's why I went with TGM (sort of a light gold) on the Forester. ....I didn't want to have to maintain two difficult colors. ;) For painted wheels I simply use the same type of products I might use for the rest of the car. IIRC I made use of some Zaino AIO that I had last time. subaru3169 04-18-2008, 01:00 PM awesome.. thanks=) |
