i've always wondered how all u detailing grurs clean ur dirty towels after use? like those microfiber towels i've been using... i use them to wipe a lot of stuff from waxing, to cleaning windows to cleaning up engine oil, polishing exhaust tips, or cleaning rims... they're all greasy from cleaning engine bay, and carboned up from exhaust tips and waxy from wiping down the wax... so how do u guys get them clean afterwards? i know detail shops throw them into a washing machine but thats not an option for me... i tried washing with dish wash detergent but they're still black or feels waxy from the wax.. any idea? or tips? thanks!

There is a MF (Micro Fiber) solution/detergent you can use to clean them up.

is an mf towel really needed to clean the exaust tip, or the engine bay? windows i get and for waxing i get it, but i dont see why you would use mf for oil and soot(sp)

I use some oxy-clean, put them in a bin, wash them by hand, let them soak, than I throw them in the washer. Then dry on delicate in the dryer.

They're probably crappy as hell and will rip your car to pieces.

i usually go to a coin laundrymat and use a arsenal of detergents with hot water...

and polishing rags

hand them to my wife. I'm kidding. She does take care of the laundry though and I've had a few rejections by her and so I've had to just throw some of the REAL dirty "clean-up" rags away. Car cleaning towels, rags, etc. hit the washing machine.

I currently use Chemical Guys wash.

Used Pinnacle's wash before that.

I throw every towel out after I use them once, it gets expensive, but prevents scratches.

I use a dye free liquid detergent in the washing machine. I throw some vinegar in the rinse cycle too. I dry on cool. My micro fibers come out nice and soft.

I throw every towel out after I use them once, it gets expensive, but prevents scratches. .....totally unnecessary.

You simply need to use a clean rinsing detergent, no bleach, no softener, wash separately & don't use heat. The use of one of the MF-specific detergents mentioned in this thread will help eliminate the possibility of soap residue. Provided the towels are of good quality and you use the right products/techniques to maintain them, there is little risk of scratching post-wash.

Depending on how well or worn the microfiber towel is, I'll wash them with normal liquid dawn with cold cold water, but I use different towels for different purposes seperating them by color. I use my really nice grey ones for wax removal and fine detailing, yellow for windows, white for interior parts and detailing, and blue ones for dirty work like polishing engine bits and exhaust parts. I typically keep them for 1/2 dozen washes and then I replace them all. It probably sounds pretty OCD or anal but it seems to really work with getting life out of the towels and protecting my paint.
