View Full Version : Need help w/ "plug and play" HID install (pics/diagram inside)
ZZcorollaVV_Ti 04-18-2008, 08:29 PM I bought a set of HID's for a 99 RS, and they are "plug and play". I hooked them all up but the don't turn on. I did no cutting and it took like 5 minutes to install both sides. The \y are sized H4 and the bulb fits in the headlight with no issues. Please look at the pics and MS diagram and tell me if I did anything wrong.
Should the ballasts he connected together in any way?
Thanks for all the help.

ZZcorollaVV_Ti 04-18-2008, 08:39 PM One more thing. This kit is an 8k (all they had in H4), but the hi beam, the only thing that works, is still stock yellow color, even though it's an HID bulb.
Rayme 04-18-2008, 08:57 PM holy crap, that plug and play kit looks more complicated than a user made retrofit
Are you missing the ignitors or they are built-in the ballast?
but you say the high beam works, just no low beam?
are you sure this is a dual-beam hid setup? most are single beam, really designed to replace only single beam headlights, unlike the H4.
GeoffSFAs10 04-19-2008, 01:43 AM it could be one of those pnp kits that have a halogen bulb mated to the base of the HID bulb to use as a high instead of having a shield.
ZZcorollaVV_Ti 04-19-2008, 03:36 AM It does have 2 bulbs on it, but you know what. The smaller bulb does look like it's just screwed on. Does that mean that it's not a true Hi/Low set up? Does this mean the low won't work at all...ever?
Here's what the bulb looks like.

GeoffSFAs10 04-19-2008, 11:04 AM no the low should work. just gonna take some thinking and you'll prolley have to make a different harness for it. that setup is the cheaper way of doing a HID kit for a dual filament bulb vs having one HID bulb and a spring powered shield
yup, one HID, one halogen. Tho their wiring should have made both work properly. Your stock wiring has 3 connectors. Hi ground, Lo ground, and common power. If this was suppossed to be plug an play, i'd contact the maufacteur and see what they have to say.
And i'm thinking if you've got yellow-ish halogen-like light, than the one bulb is working, just not the other.

im not familiar with 94's but if they use the same system as 02 up then you better rethink your subaru wiring logic :D
subaru uses switched grounds. not switched positives... its annoying and complicated for most to realize.
the stock wiring connector should have a COMMON POSITIVE and a switched ground for HI and LOW beams. you will need to use a multimeter or a factory wiring schematic to determine which is which.

yeah its also the way to blind oncoming traffic at night.
oh, sorry, i wondered about that, i just wrote it down however it came out of my head, but the other way does make more sense.
So one common power, one ground for each: Hi and Lo.
Fixed the one above so there's no confusion..
ZZcorollaVV_Ti 04-19-2008, 04:16 PM Should I try switching the red wires on the HID kit that plug into the oem plug?

corolla, i will be making a wiring diagram for this how-to i did.

you will want to wire your dual beam kit the same way. this way guarantees that your xenon bulb will stay lit when u turn on your highbeams/ flash to pass.
i will make the diagram tomorrow.:)
manookie 04-19-2008, 11:21 PM I dont mean to hijack the thread or anything but im looking for a little help as well. Here is a diagram of my question and what i'v got. Car is an 06 tr. The harness i got was from lightwerkz. It seems that i have some extra plugs and i dont know where they go. Again sorry OP dont mean to be an ass.

Rayme 04-20-2008, 11:54 AM lol, 2 bulbs?? Talk about ghetto rigging headlights.
