Fast answer needed, as I'm about to lay down some cash. Looking at a 99 Legacy with a bad engine and some transmission problems. 2.5 litre engine. Auto trans. I have a good 2000 2.2 litre engine and trans out of a wrecked Impreza OBS.

Yeah, that's my plan B as far as the engine goes. I'm gonna see if I can get it going with what's on the 2.2 first. My main concern is whether or not the wiring for the transmission will match the 2000 trans. I think I have to swap the rear diff with the trans too for it to work.

you could just swap the motor, it will bolt right up to the auto trans. it will elimnate having to swap the trans and the diff.
