I'm having trouble finding a good source of meth or eth so I was thinking of getting tuned with water.

So how much performance am I going to miss out on by just tuning with water.


The sticky says "some and possibly" but doesn't give any numbers.

I'm looking for ballpark numbers.

If I can find it at my local hardware store, in a town with a population less than 1000, you should be able to find it too.
Look in the paint/solvent section.

AKA "denatured alcohol"? Try asking for that.

I think there is a post somewhere where tests were done with various water/meth combinations, and isopropyl alcohol (more common) was tried...

I found the denatured, but it was $18 a gallon. I'm willing to pay that for an extra 30 whp, but if it's like 7hp, then I don't think it's worth it

I'm definatly getting a protune as soon as this kit is on... just wondering how much difference there would be and if the difference would be worth the pain or $$ of getting alky

i have an 05 sti. mods are as follows:

Protuned, Cobb catted TBE, Prodrive 3-port boost solenoid, SPT intake w/ heatshield, Cobb lightweight main pulley, Cobb double adjustible shifter, Defi gauges (Boost, EGT, OP), SMC.

the difference b/w my 91 cali pump gas protune and the 91 cali pump gas + boost juice protune according to the mustang dyno is as follows:

with the meth, i gained 20.6 hp and 50.4 tq.

I have conservative tunes on both water and meth/water. I have FP Green on an 06 STi and do 30hp diff between the two and 48 tq. Water is at 22psi and meth at 24.

Thats what im doing right now till I get the $$ for a protune. Just by slapping the meth on I noticed a little gain but im going to leave the system on (50% duty cycle) just so my engine is safer. My friend was like dam if it runs this good with it on this tune you better give me a rip ride when you get it protuned lol.

you can use HEET, they sell that everywhere..

Or -20 windshield washer fluid. At least it has some meth.

There are some alternate sources for meth - you may find it through chimney cleaners, petrol distributing centers, and you CAN mail order it....

Even if you have to road trip to a dealer who sells bulk, you can buy bulk into5 callon cans you provide and buy enough to last 6months or so at a time.

If your location is accurate, then go see A1 Racing on E. Railway Ave in PAterson, NJ. They are only there from 11:30am-5pm. They are a Sunoco Racing Fuel distributor. They sell Meth by the Gal. into your container, or you can buy 5 gal cans to put it in.

I dont know where your buying it but walmart has HEET in a 4 bottle package for 3 bucks. Theres 128 ounces in a gallon and 12 ounces in a bottle. So that comes out to 10.666 bottles lol for 100% meth and about $8 bucks. If your doing 50/50 then its only 5 bottles which is about $4 or so dollars. I checked out autozone too and they had it for $1.44 a bottle!

Go on VP Race fuels website and get a hold of your local vp dealer, most sell generic and VP Meth, the last place i checked sold un-branded meth for $3/gallon in your own container.

They sell enough racing fuel, to have the owner drive in from LI everyday! Which is why he is there only from like 12-5pm. They have been around a long, long time. I personally, was buying meth from him for the last 2 yrs.

He has the 5 gal drumb (which look like mini 55gal container's) he sells for $10 extra. This has a nice sealed cap, and being in a steel can it will absorb less moisture than a plastic gas can would. This would be a best bet, plus they can refill it:)

I haven't seen the 4 pack for $3, but that doesn't sound bad at all, I'd rock that but at 1.44 it's $16 a gal (1.44*11bottles) + tax.

I didn't know meth was so hard to get, I'm just worried that one day I'll have to drive the car and won't be able to because I don't have any "specialty" fuel and the online order will take a week to get in....but from the sound of it, you guys haven't run into that yet

you will make a lot more power off a 50/50 mix that just water...check to see if there is any local farms near you that use methanol to make biodiesel...
