I have found a killer deal on a 2.5L 1998 RS engine. There has been a lot of work put into the engine and at 300$ it sounds like a great deal. The only problem is there is no reassurance that there is nothing wrong with the engine. I would be swapping this engine into My 1997 GC coupe. I would use the 1.8 Ecu and the the 2.5 engine injectors and intake manifold. Would this swap be worth it? I would gain about 55hp from the swap, which isn't bad for 300$. The engine is said to have 45K on it so it would be less miles than mine. It comes with a brand new clutch (mine is shuttering).
Is this a sound swap? Would it be worth the pain?

If you can get comression numbers and if possible, listen to it run from a cold startup, it could very well be a great deal. $300 for 50hp isn't too shabby!

I'm kind of second guessing myself after reading some of his post.

Same seller? If so, make it known upfront that you are part of a large online Subaru community that looks out for each other, and their name popped up while researching. Insist on some sort of warrantee or act of good faith that the motor is not DOA. Afterall, sometimes a deal that sounds too good to be true....is.

No, same engine. That's the engine for sale. He had a bunch of work done on it from what I can tell and never had it installed.

For $300, I would buy it and go back through it.....just to make sure it's clean.

That's what I was thinking. I'm going to try and get a finite list of things he has do to it before I buy it and he doesn't car anymore. I hate redoing things that have already been done.
