web site says the oil can last atleast 17,500 under severe conditions. im not gonna let it go that long, probably 5-7k
but how will the oem oil filter hold up?

I Change the filter every 6,000km/3,800Miles and change the oil & filter every 12,000km/7,500Miles... Seems to work for my car, it now has 277,000km/173,000Miles. With never anything done to engine or transmission. :)

Rated for the normal PM as common sense dictates.
7500 miles max for warranty purposes on an 06'.

I have run mine to 8,000 miles because I couldn't get around to changing the oil at 7,500 miles. My Blackstone uoa was fine. Another member here, drees, consistently ran the OEM filter to 8,000 miles in his WRX.

Do a uoa with Oil Analyzers between 5-7k to find out for sure.

I thought that if you take off the filter, oil would gush out. How are you changing your filter without changing the oil? Do you just drain it and add it back? Am I missing something? :confused:

No the filter is higher than the oil pan.. Wait 10 minutes after shutting engine off and you can change the filter and you only have to top off the oil for the little bit lost that was in the filter.

it doesnt matter what the oil companies say, do yourself a favor and follow Subaru's oil change interval. If you however are out of or dont care about your warranty do what you will.

just changed my oil (mobil 1 5w30syn) and oil filter (fram) at 6,400 miles. Time for a wash :)

does any one know what subaru's oil chagne interval is? i think the manual says 7500 but I heard they changed that.

It depends on the model year. All turbos from MY2008 onward do require oil and filter changes every 3,750. It's not mandatory prior to MY2008, although some dealers are making it every 3,750 for all years for consistency.

Whether or not the oil can last to 7,500 depends on many factors and a used oil analysis is a great way to see how the oil is holding up.

Whether the OP runs his oil to 500 miles or 5,000 miles, may not matter anyway. Amsoil gets into the gray area for warranty coverage because it's not "API certified" (except for the XL line).

sony - Keep track of the numbers from the Amsoil bottle in case you have to invoke the Amsoil warranty.

Just because an oil doesn't have API certification doesn't mean that it's not good. It just means that the companies haven't spent the money to get an oil certified and/or they have higher additives than allowed under the current API ratings. Amsoil and Redline are both great oils, but are not API certified.

There are Subaru dealers that use Motul 8100 5W30, but it meets API SL (the older classification).

hey i called amsoil to check about this, subaru not covering for warranty.
they tech rep. said that they would have to prove it was the oil that caused the problem. i dunno if thats true. or is it that if you do not use an api certified oil, that in it self can be used to justify a denial of a warranty claim?

ughhhh i just bought 12 bottles of this stuff. i dont want any problems.

Have you read your warranty statement so you know what it says? Amsoil is probably right, but it'll be your legal bill to force Subaru to cover any failure. Presuming you win, you should be able to get that bill back, unless of course your warranty forces you to use arbitration instead of a lawsuit...

Basically, if you did have a major engine failure AND the dealer decided to claim it was your fault for using Amsoil, the dealer would sit back and claim the Amsoil caused the failure, Amsoil would sit back and claim that Subaru has to prove it was the oil's fault... you see where this goes? Back to you having a big bill to force one or the other of them to pay up and/or make the repair.

Now, why you would presume the dealer would automatically know Amsoil was in the crankcase, why you would assume they'd blame the Amsoil, etc., is not clear to me. Take proper care of your car. Don't worry about stuff that's not going to become an issue OR ELSE just don't use something that might maybe perhaps cause you an issue.

Yea, don't worry about it, It won't blow up because of the oil...As long as there is sufficient oil in there ANY of today's oils are MORE than sufficient to do the job. As for leaving it in there for 7,000 Miles. Again don't worry about it, today's synthetic oils are good enough to last more than that too.
