View Full Version : 04 STi w/ GT52
Spunky424 06-20-2008, 08:57 PM Finally got a chance to hop on the dyno and have dave brown from MSPT tune my 2004 STi w/ Element tuning GT52.
The following are my mods:
Element GT52
PE850s
Vibrant header
UR uppipe w/ 38mm EWG
1 step colder denso plugs
tgv deletes
APS inlet
APS DR525 FMIC
APS 70mm CAI
CObb 3" catback (no taper)
3" downpipe
Final numbers were 390WHP/425wtorque. This was on a dyno dynamics dyno.
Turbo was pushed to 22lbs on 93 pump gas.
Here is the plot:

Car pulls like a freight train. Thanks to Dave Brown and MSPT!!!
aspiringRexer 06-20-2008, 10:07 PM Very very nice. I'm assuming Element doesn't using the same naming/size conventions as Garrett, as a GT35 makes 500whp, a GT42 700+. Along those lines a GT52 should be beyond 1000hp, so I think they scale things differently ;)
Overall, that car looks waay too fun to be healthy. Go kill some Corvettes.
WOR440 06-20-2008, 10:41 PM The GT52 is not a rotated turbo like you are thinking, it is a hybrid 30r turbo. Either way I bet the car is a blast to drive. You should look into doing a race gas map and up the boost a little for track/drag/fun days, it still has a lot of breath left in it!
GRUMPY514 06-20-2008, 10:52 PM Put up some videos ASAP.
keaniegenie 06-21-2008, 04:31 AM Great numbers. Instead of a race gas map, maybe run water injection.
Calitri-Boost 06-21-2008, 04:35 AM nice numbers. sounds like a turbo i might want in the future. post videos if u can
pictureboy 06-21-2008, 08:37 AM Awesome numbers! I can't wail till he tunes my GT52! I'm running an MRT TMIC and internal gate on my 04 STI so it will be interesting to see how far off your numbers I am.
Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure Element refers to the flow of the compressor wheel for their turbo naming conventions :)
GT52 = 52lbs/min comp wheel
GT65 = 65lbs/min comp wheel
The GT52 is not a rotated turbo like you are thinking, it is a hybrid 30r turbo.
I wouldn't go as far as saying that as it doesn't use the GT30R CHRA, it only uses a Garret 52lbs/min wheel ;)
CynicX 06-21-2008, 01:42 PM Gobs of usable power....I like it, nice job....
wrxtremeWGN 06-21-2008, 02:37 PM great numbers, dave is good people!
godforbid67 06-21-2008, 03:27 PM yeah the 52 stands for the compresser wheel. its basically a bolt on gt30, and the gt65 is basically a bolt on gt35, although they never seem to make the same power as a rotated kit. i didnt know, and the first time i saw a gt65 i was like what! i was expecting in excess of 1000 hp.
6star 06-21-2008, 06:30 PM Very very nice. I'm assuming Element doesn't using the same naming/size conventions as Garrett, as a GT35 makes 500whp, a GT42 700+. Along those lines a GT52 should be beyond 1000hp, so I think they scale things differently ;)

WOW
TopEndPull 06-21-2008, 10:36 PM nice numbers glad you like the turbo

you know, I never looked at it this way. The GT49 then would make about 800whp? And with amazing spool at about 3500 rpm...

Same compressor capacity as a 3076, but 30Rs are ball-bearinged, and the GT52 is not. Hybrid GT30, yes, but hybrid GT30R, no.

welcome to nasioc....
aspiringRexer 06-22-2008, 11:23 PM WOW
eff you all to hell. I was making an anecdotal, completely legit observations about GT naming conventions.
Y'all haters. :)
Clark_Kent 06-22-2008, 11:49 PM Nice numbers.
Clark Turner 06-23-2008, 01:30 AM Awesome curve and power for that setup. I have tuned on that dyno many times. Good Job Dave at MSPT!

M.S.P.T 06-23-2008, 12:08 PM that turbo is very nice.the car on the road was impressive..

Element Tuning 06-29-2008, 07:11 PM Spunky424,
Congratulations! That's solid power for an Element GT52.
Thanks,

tux121 06-29-2008, 07:56 PM Nice, I'm just a bit worried on how the peak torque is 425whp the falls down to 300whp by redline.
Str8Gone 06-29-2008, 08:28 PM Element turbos look awesome and perform, the 52 stands for the flow of the turbo. So basically this turbo is capable of 520 hp to the crank.
PSM-04-STi 06-30-2008, 06:53 PM I've seen it put down 510ish? whp on the same kinda dyno
4ST-AIR 06-30-2008, 07:18 PM I've seen it put down 510ish? whp on the same kinda dyno
On built bottom running race gas I would imagine.
Phatron 06-30-2008, 07:58 PM Nice, I'm just a bit worried on how the peak torque is 425whp the falls down to 300whp by redline.
thats completely normal.....49-52lb/min turbos will make peak hp ~6000rpm then fall off, which is why the tq falls off so hard. Some shops post their plots on large scales and make the graphs short and wide to make the tq appear to be a shelf, but the numbers are doing the same thing.
For a tq curve to be flat on our cars you either have to detune the low end or get a massive turbo that is hitting peak hp at 10,000 rpm :).
Heres an AMR tuned gt52 with pretty much the exact same numbers on a dyno dynamics.
