View Full Version : question for a mild build

I'm planning a 6mt transmission swap as a drivability upgrade and a prereq for power upgrades, and was thinking that since the engine would be out of the car (partway, anyway), that'd a good time to do the block if I have to.

I have a regular 06 wrx, and my goals are modest - 300whp and good daily driver/fuel economy when not flogging the motor. I've been lusting after the crawford shortblocks, but that may not (probably won't) be necessary.

My question is this - what's a good base block for a target 300 (or 325)whp subaru? I'd like to get ok mileage (22-24 hwy would be fine), and I want to be able to keep a TMIC and eventually get the redline to 7k. Target application is track days and autocross (which is probably just fine as is). I don't really expect the top speed to top 150, but having more headroom in lower gears is a good thing.

Im not an expert but I think with that power level you will be fine on stock internals

good to know; just figured that a block swap at the same time as the tranny would be cheaper than doing it separately.

looks like I'll be getting a 20G turbo and large IC, then working within those limitations. Should have more than 325whp potentialwise, so I can dial it up a bit if I want.
